So I ventured to the Apple store this afternoon with the intention of purchasing an iPhone, yet left sans device after being rather unimpressed. Granted it is a huge step forward in technology, but it really just seemed a bit lackluster to me. I really and truly like my Blackberry Pearl better (gasp!).

I am an avid Apple fan, owning an iMac, MBP, iPod Nano etc., but this phone already seems dated and it's only 2 days old! The gadget itself looks rather Frankenstein-ian to me. The black and chrome on the front is nice, but the brushed aluminum (I know, I know - to prevent scratches) backing with the ugly black band on the bottom just doesn't have that clean iPod video gleam to it. And despite everyone's gushing of it's thin form factor, it seemed HUGE to me. Software seemed glitchy too. I guess I really wished it was an iPod video with larger screen and phone capabilities. Dunno. Anyway, just my two cents. I don't hate it, just think it can be much better. I can definitely think of other things I'd rather buy with $600 right now.

Well, I had the opposite reaction. I was determined to wait until a second generation phone came out and for it to gain the full functionality of my Treo, but I was so impressed by the interface, form factor, and sleek elegance, that I walked out $600 poorer, but much much happier. It won't replace my Treo until it can handle corporate email, but it will likely be my new iPod. It is not perfect by any means, but it is a glimpse of the future that is here and now. But to each his/her own!:)
