I realize that you do not NEED to put a case on an iPhone, but many people choose to in order to protect the back of the phone. This is not something I did with any of my old phones, blackberry and even iPhone 3G.
You're still generalizing based on your preferences. People have put cases on phones since long before the iPhone.

Well, I guess you're just so much better than everyone else here, aren't you? It sounds like you don't like anything about Apple or iOS at all, besides the hardware. That shouldn't be enough of a reason anymore since the other phone companies now put out very high quality headsets. Perhaps and Samsung/Moto/HTC running on the latest Android would better suit your needs to customize every aspect of your phone. I know plenty of people with the GS4 that love its ability to move things around and change colors. Of course it could just be a complex you have fueling your need to sound superior to everyone else with a different opinion.
I'm not the one who disparaged my opinion about iOS 7. But I will defend my choices. Defending my choices does not mean I think I am better than anyone else. If you or anyone wants to use iOS 7 go right ahead. I'll stay right here.

As to the iPhone or Apple in general, you don't know me. I converted to Apple in 2003 simply because it works and my PC at the time didn't. Because I cannot afford the latest or greatest I managed to go completely Apple by virtue of buying PowerPC Macs. But I bought those because I like the design first and foremost. And Macs of that era along with the OS of that era allow you to customize things.

Your viewpoint of my opinion suggests that you don't think very highly of jailbreakers or jailbreaking. That's fine if true. But if you're going to throw me out of the Apple ecosystem because you think I'd like it better elsewhere then you've got a lot of jailbreakers to throw out too.

Not all Apple fans are gobsmacked happy with stock iOS. That's why I jailbreak, to get the things Apple won't allow. But those things complement the experience, they don't remove it or make it non-Apple (as much as Apple might think different).

Having been on WinMo for three years and a flip phone before that while waiting for Sprint to finally get the iPhone, I'd never go back.

Very well then, I stand corrected. My apologies if I offended you.

No offense taken. This is an internet forum where discussion (emphasis on discussion) is the name of the game. You stated your opinion and I stated mine. Reasonable people can have a discussion and a difference of opinion without involving emotions.

It's my understanding that this is what we are engaged in and I have nothing personal against you or anyone involved in meaningful discussion. :)

Right, but it wasn't as prevalent. It's not just generalizing based on my preferences, but it is generalizing based on what I've seen in the marketplace and from seeing people on their phones over the past 5 or so years.

Phones still don't need cases. Never had an iPhone in a case, never had any phone in a case.

Right... Which is why I said that phones do not "need" cases in the first post...

The only time I used a case on my phones is so that I can clip it on my belt. When I got my first cell phone 15 years ago, I got a case with a belt clip for the belt clip. I would clip it on my belt when I'm not using it. I did that because I first put it in my watch pocket of my shirt and the phone would fall out (but not break) ever time I bent over to put on or take off my shoes. Having a belt clipt was more secure. I did the same for my next few phones.

Then I switched to belt holsters. With a belt holster, I have a secure place to put my phone when I'm not using it. Since then, I have never used a case on any of my phones. I did drop my phones a few times. So far, my phones have always survived the drops.

My wife and 2 co-workers broke their screens while in fairly minimalist cases. Most cases won't really protect your phone from anything but scratches from setting it down on a table (unless otterbox, lifeproof, etc). I go back and forth myself though, sometimes with a case, sometimes without.

With my iPhone 4, I found it to be quite slippery without a case. I just love the yellow case I got for my iPhone 5s. The phone is space gray and goes well with the case. Beautiful IMHO.

I've always had my iPhone 4 in a case. It is still shiny and new looking and is beautiful. It was just too slippery to handle without a case.

I've never used a case and I've had every second iPhone since the first gen. The one problem I had was my iPhone 4 going through the wash with my jeans, but I think that would have ruined any phone.

Anyone else miss the days of phones not needing cases?

I have a case, but it's really clear so I can see entire backside of the phone and it's really thin. Maybe not Pinlo Slice3-thin but almost.

I used also on my old 4S a case and that's because the back was like it was, out of glass. I used also on my Android-phones cases because I simply want to take care of my things. I don't care about "style" or other bling, I just want protection. I use also now as before a screen protector from Copter.

You are contradicting yourself. Why, then, would you ask if anyone miss the days of phones not needing cases?

“You must unlearn what you have learned.” -Yoda.

You must be an English teacher. And a bad reader, because I qualified my statement already that phones do not "need" them. Poor word choice I suppose. A phone can never need anything, it is an inanimate object. I guess I should have said, "Does anyone miss the days of not possibly feeling as though one did not have any reason to protect the condition of one's cellular device?"

But that's probably not correct either.

Fixed that up for you. ;)

Thanks. That's clearly what I mean to say.

I just ordered a T-Mobile 5S and paid for Saturday delivery. Can't wait to get it!

I didn't think I would buy another iPhone after trying a Nexus 4 but Android bores me now.

iPhone for the win!

I've always used cases but am "trying" to go naked. I've bought AppleCare plus and for the past week or so have just been using a pouch. Still not quite naked but getting there.

First time I've had AppleCare so not sure how it works. I think they'll only fix/replace if you smash the screen. I don't think they'll replace if you just scratch your phone?

So if you do get a few scratches it might, erm, "accidentally" slip out of the hand and smash the screen?

Be careful what you ask for. They raised AC+ deductible because of people like you who "accidentally" damage your iPhone when you feel like getting a replacement and think nothing of it.

That would never happen! But I've heard a lot of people get much more clumsy the week or so before their AppleCare+ coverage is about to expire. ;)
