I went to the Apple Store last night to get an 8 and ended up getting a 7 because I so disliked the aesthetics of the 8. I much preferred the jet black, why did they change that? Do you think they will continue that with the next release or go back to black? Was that a bad decision on my part?

The Jet black was likely just a very limited time offering for that ‘special’ type of color. But the prom of the jet black, was that it scratched relatively easily and almost impossible to keep pristine out of the box.

Do you think they will continue that with the next release or go back to black?

There is no inclination of what Apple will offer for the next iPhone color. As already mentioned, the Jet black or matte black were likely limited.

Was that a bad decision on my part?

Only you can make this decision.

It’s only noticeably grey under direct light. The majority of the time mine looks black.

I would have a silver/white back any day over black. The only reason I have a space grey 8 Plus now is that it has a black front plate which is much easier on the eye when using the phone. When I switch to an X-style design I’ll be going back to white since it has an all-black front and a much better looking steel rim than the grey version.

I think buying an iPhone at this point could be a bad decision since it’s approximately a month until the new iPhones will be announced. That said if you don’t have any specific requirements that the 8 or a newer model could offer, the 7 is still a good choice.

ya i have the iPhone x in space grey, i prefer it over the silver one for sure... but would 100% a fully black one like the old iPhone 4 days

I can’t say I’ve ever bought into this idea of over studying the colour shade of a black or grey iPhone that a handful of people do on here. I find it quite bewildering.

It's just weird. A smart phone is a work tool. It doesn't matter what colour it is or what shade of black/grey the phone is! Some people clearly have far too much free time on their hands.

it's the glass for wireless charging- you can't do jet black with that seamless look.

I suggest slapping a Thun jet black case on it. I did so last year on the X and it worked like a charm.
