I have never owned an apple watch, but the AOD convinced me to jump in and replace my mechanical watch. Now I own a space black stainless steel with space black link bracelet (I plan on using this watch for at least 2 years before maybe upgrading, so it was worth it for me, also payed less than half price for link bracelet) and with a minimal watch face and disabled raise to wake it is a beautiful watch that looks nearly like a classical watch until I interact with it. Battery life is also great for me with AOD, I made it through 2 days without charging once. Very happy with my first apple watch and I would not have bought one if they had not introduced AOD.

I think AOD + new ambient light sensor is awesome..

was watching joker in the cinema and my series 5 was very faintly glowing in the dark with a comfortable just-visible brightness.. kinda Like how the old glow in the dark stickers etc would look when it’s new in the dark..

Love it!

I've got mine turned off. Not because I'm concerned about battery life - I just don't need it enabled on a regular basis. The screen comes on anyway with an ever-so-subtle turn of the wrist. Occasionally I'll turn it on, but most of the time mine is off. It's just not a critical feature for me, personally.

Same here...After having my S5 for a few weeks, I've actually turned off AOD. Not because of battery life, but honestly, it doesn't really do anything for me. Never had a time where I needed to discreetly look at my watch for the time...Even when I do, you still have to bring your wrist up somewhat to see it, and by then, the normal display kicks in anyways.

Exactly

Not when you're in a meeting with your arms on an armrest or the table.

Not when I'm typing at my desk.

I use AOD all the time without moving my wrist.

Yep, all of the above and more. It sounds like people need to make up excuses to turn AOD off. You don't, really. Just do what works best for you. You can be sure that the rest of us will continue to reap the benefits of AOD because it happens to work great for us.

It's not a question of making excuses...everyone can do what they like. There is no right answer for everyone.

In my case, when I'm working, I have two computers, plus a clock on the wall, that show me the time. If I'm in a meeting, there is a clock on the wall. So each to their own...

Went on a bike ride for the first time with my series 5 the other day and I loved the fact that I could actually glance and see where my workout was without having to flip my wrist awkwardly ha
Flipping the wrist is a pretty tough thing to do while riding at an elevated pace, so I understand this completely! I’ve especially found the AOD very beneficial for workouts, more so than for the times I’m just sitting around.

It’d be good to have an AOD trigger in control center in the future.

The AOD is awesome when swimming particularly. I always found that it would often not turn on with a wrist raise or if I hit a button it would show for a fraction of a second what I wanted to see and then go to a message about turning the crown to turn off the water lock feature and then go black again.. hence, push the button at ~70 lengths to see what you did.. swim a few strokes and have to do it again and often repeat several times until you can see exactly where you are up to.

THIS was one of the major things I hoped the AOD fixed and it does.

I can just glance down when I'm typing, eating, reading, etc. to see the time instead of having to bring my arm up or twist it. What's not to like?

I find it useful indoors with the right watch face. But I find it nearly impossible to read outdoors in the sun.

Yep I agree. I have AOD on all the time and just glance at my wrist to check the time. Not having to raise my wrist and have the watch on full brightness to tell the time is the advantage that the S5 has over the S4 as it reduces battery usage and you can be subtle when checking the time
