Today I hit the mute button and the music quickly fades out. It's not a hard cut off, it's more like a quick fade-out. Is this new or has it always been like this. If it has, I just only first noticed it today. Does anyone else's computer do this or is it specific to the Mac Pros.

Try it on your PB and see! 😉

Mute button on keyboard as well as the iTunes mute option both appear to be relatively hard Perhaps not jarringly hard... it does sound like the mute is very slightly tapered on the order of milliseconds. But no softer than the mute for muting Youtube in Safari.... (iBook G4 / 10.4.8)

Yeah now that you mention it...my core duo 2.0 Macbook has it as well .

Quite a nice and subtle touch.

Thats what it is... I've always noticed something odd about the mute button/function on my iMac... I just thought it was just poor latency... lol

I think it is a fade because it is less damaging to speakers if the music fades in rather than suddenly jumps in. I may be wrong.

Yeah... it's very slight but, it sounds like someone turns the volume nob really fast instead of just pulling the plug. I bet it's only on the Intel Macs and the old PPC Macs don't do it.

Perhaps it's a feature of 10.4.8 ? I notice everyone who's said they have it is running it or doesn't specify.

Does anyone want to help clear this up?

I am runniing 10.4.8 in my PPC Quad G5 which is in the "hard cut-off" camp.

Wow...I have my iMac G5 and Core Duo Mini next together other...helps to be able to hear the difference.

Cool

Hm....this is strange then. Perhaps we'll never know why this is. Either that, or some of us have a better ear for hearing the millisecond fade off point. 😕
