Was able to score a X this morning at my Verizon, although they had plenty and no one seemed to care so I'm not sure score is the right word. I traded in my 7+ and got a great deal on the trade in IMO.

Anyway I'm still getting used to it and am really missing the size of my plus. The dream, of course, is a plus sized phone but all screen, so maybe the x-plus next year. But I'm still vacillating between the X and getting a 8 plus as I'm sort of feeling the X is a downgrade.

Screen: Screen on the X is beautiful, but not much nicer than the 7/8 series IMO. I think that's a combination of things. Apple likes muted, more realistic colors and also the truetone option makes colors look that much more muted and boring IMO.

Screen size: This is the one that's really messing me up. The X screen is taller, but the plus screens are wider. The width really becomes apparent with things like the widget page. What also sucks are apps that have not been updated to fit the X, which seems like most of non Apple apps so far. They get letterboxed top and bottom to have the same size as the old non plus iphones. Of course apps will be updated, but not all devs are quick to update their apps, and even major devs like Google can sometimes take a long time. Also in landscape view the X letterboxes video content, along with the notch this reduced the video to non plus size, video is definitely larger on the plus.

Face ID: Face ID kind of sucks IMO, mainly because it's slow. I hold the phone up and see the unlock icon and it literally takes a full second or so to unlock, then I have to stupidly swipe up in addition. I could have touch ID unlocked my phone 3 times in this time frame. It's also difficult to face ID unlock if the phone is on a desk or in a car holder, you have to put your face right in front of the phone for it to work. I've also had my Face id fail a few times and ask for my code.

Gestures: meh, especially the hold and swipe up sucks compared to the old method.

Earpiece: The few phones calls I've had the X speaker feels a bit blown out and not as clear as the plus, I'm hoping it's just a software adjustment or just have to get used to it.

But still the X is a marvelous feat of engineering. It feels freakin solid and sturdy and is sooooo small, which is very nice in the pocket. I'm going to really give it a chance, and if not I can always give it to my wife and switch to a 8 plus. But I'm truly torn and can go either direction.

Between 8+ and the X for me. I have no love for Face unlock. I think you nailed it. Slow. And then having to swipe? Man, that undermines the whole point. Or at least should be optional.

The screen and the size do have my attention. That could be a game changer for me. If not, I'll get the 8+.

I just checked it out in store and nope the X is too small for me and i didnt really notice the oled at all. It actually felt like a downgrade holding it next to my big 7 Plus screen. NO HATE

I have the 8+.
I was not interested in the X.
I did decide to go to my local Apple Store today to check it out.. they said they had Xs for sale but were out of stock on the one I would have bought IF I were to get the X.. 256 TMO.

I spent some time playing with the X..
- Screen is nice but I couldn’t tell a major difference in ‘quality’ from my 8+. I baselined brightness and compared video and images as well as home screen.

- It isn’t as tall as I expected. The dimensions are nice.. but I do wish it was wider.

- Video playback .. I don’t like the ‘bordered’ look to avoid the notch in FULL screen. WTS, the notch in FULL screen is there but not terrible.. I am not sure that would be a deal breaker for me.. it was based on my expectations.

- Photo viewing.. screen looks good.. the notch is a non-issue for looking at and editing photos IMO. I normally edit in Portrait and even in Landscape the only stretching to edges would be in extreme zooms of an image. Knock off one irk I had with the X.

- Weight.. oh my.. it is so light and feels very well weighted and balanced in the hand.

- GUI/swiping.. would take some getting used to but a non-issue IMO. My finger was looking for the home button but I quickly acclimated to it being gone. It was kind of nice actually. I did NOT expect that.

Camera - zoom lens is still not a lens I would count on for good IQ.. regular photos I was able to take and compare in-store... including a tough strong back-lit picture gave good results.. I have to say the result from my 8+ looked better.

- I don’t care about Animoji

- Really not a fan or sold on Face ID.. I don’t trust that it isnt’ looking at me anyway so would probably use it over a passcode.

Summary:
I have to be honest.. I was tempted.. you get more screen than the 8 but not crazy big like the Plus. If the X was a tad wider it would be MUCH more tempting as video playback was a bit smaller than I would like.

Very nice phone.... I have a little over a week to trade if I decide to do so..

Mine is sitting at home and I’ll open it shortly when I can take a break from work.
I played with one this morning at an att store. I was underwhelmed. I’m a 7+ user and going to a smaller form factor after three years is going to take some adjusting.
Still I’ll give it a shot and hopefully will adjust.

Yea I'm having a bit of a problem with the screen size being narrower than the Plus.

I'll see when it gets here. Yea a slightly larger phone or full screen Plus size would've been amazing.

I am - I’m bothered more by the notch than I thought it’d be. Plus face unlock sucks. It works fast but it’s less efficient than the finger print reader. The phone still has a lot of bezel around it so don’t know. It also feels rather heavy

No regrets as of now. Granted I’ve only used mine for a couple hours. Keyboard easy to type on. I find gestures and Face ID as fast or faster than on the plus, especially Face ID. I can understand the initial impressions, but give it a little time. It’s already becoming natural to me.

Only issue for me is the color shift off angle.

No way. The screen going to the corners just looks too good, and the OLED panel itself is just too nice.

I only used a 7+ before because of the dual cameras and 3x screen, now I have both of those in a smaller form factor.

Only thing I miss is using mail in landscape, really dumb IMO that it doesn't support the size classes the plus does, given the only limit is on height, not width.

Also for those wanting an X+, how are you going to use that with one hand? Unless you are Shaq there is no way you can reach the home bar at the very bottom of the phone and the notch for notifications without fumbling around with your grip. Just try it on a Plus, it is a very bad experience.

going from the 7 plus not missing the size at all it just feels like just a smaller body in a similar sized screen personally. Doesn't feel much smaller.

face ID is lighting fast most of the time for me. Only issue with face ID is on a table it's harder for it to open but not a complete deal breaker.

photos are outstanding compared to my 7 plus

i barely ever use my iPhone with one hand. I am even typing with both hands

Just noticed a couple more things I dislike. No battery percentage anymore!! I went through settings and there is no option, it's pretty obvious it's because it wouldn't fit on the status bar. I hate having to guess at some tiny icon how much battery I have left.

The keyboard blows. It's the same size as the non plus iphones but is just pushed up and the bottom bar with the keyboard changer/microphone is huge for some reason. It looks like some kind of temporary solution to the extra space.

No landscape mode for the home screen.

It's there you just have to go to your control centre to check it

The X doesn't have corners, but movies do, which I see as another issue for me.
