Was able to score a X this morning at my Verizon, although they had plenty and no one seemed to care so I'm not sure score is the right word. I traded in my 7+ and got a great deal on the trade in IMO.
Anyway I'm still getting used to it and am really missing the size of my plus. The dream, of course, is a plus sized phone but all screen, so maybe the x-plus next year. But I'm still vacillating between the X and getting a 8 plus as I'm sort of feeling the X is a downgrade.
Screen: Screen on the X is beautiful, but not much nicer than the 7/8 series IMO. I think that's a combination of things. Apple likes muted, more realistic colors and also the truetone option makes colors look that much more muted and boring IMO.
Screen size: This is the one that's really messing me up. The X screen is taller, but the plus screens are wider. The width really becomes apparent with things like the widget page. What also sucks are apps that have not been updated to fit the X, which seems like most of non Apple apps so far. They get letterboxed top and bottom to have the same size as the old non plus iphones. Of course apps will be updated, but not all devs are quick to update their apps, and even major devs like Google can sometimes take a long time. Also in landscape view the X letterboxes video content, along with the notch this reduced the video to non plus size, video is definitely larger on the plus.
Face ID: Face ID kind of sucks IMO, mainly because it's slow. I hold the phone up and see the unlock icon and it literally takes a full second or so to unlock, then I have to stupidly swipe up in addition. I could have touch ID unlocked my phone 3 times in this time frame. It's also difficult to face ID unlock if the phone is on a desk or in a car holder, you have to put your face right in front of the phone for it to work. I've also had my Face id fail a few times and ask for my code.
Gestures: meh, especially the hold and swipe up sucks compared to the old method.
Earpiece: The few phones calls I've had the X speaker feels a bit blown out and not as clear as the plus, I'm hoping it's just a software adjustment or just have to get used to it.
But still the X is a marvelous feat of engineering. It feels freakin solid and sturdy and is sooooo small, which is very nice in the pocket. I'm going to really give it a chance, and if not I can always give it to my wife and switch to a 8 plus. But I'm truly torn and can go either direction.
