Happy with Panther right here!
If it ain't broke don't fix it...

Tiger also isn't broke, at least not for me. I literally did not have a single problem so far, except with mail, but that was easy to fix.

Almost sounds like you're in the minority judging from the multitude of threads on MR discussing issues which people are encountering. Just another reason why I'm staying away from Tiger just for now. Maybe until 10.4.2 or .3. ;)

~Shard~!

You have to remember that as a Mac board, especially one where problems are diagnosed, discussed, and hopefully resolved, you are going to get a majority of posts discussing problems. True, a person totally without problems is rare; but that is to be expected with ANY computer. Heck! People are still having problems with Panther. I noted the problems I have had with Tiger, but I contend that they are minor. Like I stated before, if you can upgrade to Tiger, it is well worth it. Does it need polish? Yes, it does. It is Apple's finest release? I really don't think so. Should YOU upgrade? That I cannot answer because it depends on you and for what you use your machine. Panther was smooth sailing for me and with Tiger I am ironing out some kinks, but to me that is the fun of having a computer (so long as it is nothing drastic like the erasing firewire drive bug of 10.3.6).

I guess what I am saying is that I understand peoples' trepidation about Tiger, but I will be the first to aver that many of the features are worth it.

Have fun... Tony.

probably, but I think the minority also didn't do a clean install...

Well, Panther had the one major feature that brought me to the Mac -- Expose! Dashboard is a nice gee-whiz kind of thing, but Expose is a serious usability tool (rather than a floating collection of simple utilities). Now Spotlight... that's another serious usability tool but after 10 years of working with hierarchical folders, it's going to take me some time to get used to being able to put files anyplace and still bring them up in one or two keystrokes.

Burn Folders are VERY nice -- a feature I've long missed from my old days as an OS/2 user on the PC before I turned to the dark side with Windows and before I bought my first Mac last year).

But yeah, Panther's a great system. I would have still been using Panther if not for the $35 Tiger rebate from Amazon. $94 is a decent price for an upgrade. $129 is not.

Sorry, I don't talk to people like you.
*takes a step away and turns his back*
HAHAHA! Well, I am one to turn your back on. I'm still using 10.3.9 ... very happily! I am not an early-adopter because if something happens to this computer, I'm screwed! I am waiting for Tiger.2 or maybe even .3 after seeing all the problems still in .1.

I guess I'm just a big Scaredy-Cat 1.0.

I'm confused. Do you mean that a Clean Install is why you believe some people are having fewer problems, or it's why they are having more problems?

from what I have read on these boards i conclude that most people with problems did not do a clean install and upgraded instead of wiping the hard drive clean.
