I guess Apple of yesteryear wanted to specifically sell you a iPhone and an iPad. One for short form communication and one for longer content consumption. To sell users a phablet would have undermined that goal. The maturation of the smartphone as a users main digital device kind of forced their hand though. The iPad has since evolved alongside it as a unique artistic / creative device, so perhaps there’s no need to force users to buy one of each, it happens organically.

Having said that, I’m one of those SE holdouts and have been fretting over the last year and a half if the iPhone mini is small enough for me. I’ll find out soon enough 😂

Remember years back rabid guys on the forum here arguing Apple will never make a large phone - and they were rabid.

Had more than a few heated arguments with them.

Even those so called 'tech journalists' had some who said it would never happen.

This aged well:

Phablet back in the early 2010's was a 5inch or more phone 😅

Thought now was a good time to stick the boot in as we await the 12 Pro Max at 6.7 in

Though guess that breed of naysayer is off naysaying something else Apple won't do. Round Apple watch faces, or whatever it is.
Ahhhh sign 2013. No covid pandemic. Let me time travel and buy tons of n95 mask.

Steve Jobs himself said it wouldn’t happen
It’s hard to argue for a phablet when the founder publicly says you need top to bottom reach. But of course apps and smart phone use had not at the time seen its potential and I’m sure Steve would have changed with time as people use evolved.
