Anyone else holding out for a new iMac Pro with 27” or bigger display?

I use the word “iMac Pro”, as I believe it will be the successor to the regular colorful iMacs. Regardless of the name, you get what I mean.

All these M1X MacBook Pro and MacBook Air being unveiled at dub dub d c is making me nervous that iMac Pro won’t be coming for a while.

I really need a big desktop computer and complete my transition to Apple silicon already. That 24” is way too small, I also want a space gray finish with black bezels and a big screen for productivity. 64 GB of RAM and 8 TB of storage.

Nope, the 24” iMac is the perfect size for my needs. The 21.5” was too small and the 27” too tall. The 24” is the Goldilocks size. I’m sure that more powerful M iMacs are in the pipeline. Who knows when the next gen chips will be ready.

Nice. I could’ve probably made it work but the silver and white bezels won’t work for my designed workspace. Also I don’t want white keys personally.

Would I have liked that to happen; Sure. But I never expected it at WWDC so I can’t say I’m disappointed. I expect that for later. Maybe end of this year, maybe not until next. Probably next year honestly.
And my 2020 iMac is excellent for now and quite a bit going forward anyway so for me personally it’s more the 16”MBP I’m looking forward to anyway.

As for the keys though you can use a black/space grey magic keyboard with the 24” iMac. Or any other keyboard for that matter

I didnt really expect the 27" this soon, but it sure would be a nice surprise. The iMac in the last several years has been on a 1-2 year update cycle. The 21" iMac was last updated back in 2019 so it was in desperate need of an update this year. The larger iMac on the other hand was updated last August, so it hasn't even been a full year.

I know it probably sucks, but it is what it is. I do still expect a larger iMac sometime this year, but that may be a September or October announcement.

Well they don’t match. And I believe the space gray keyboards are now discontinued and don’t even include Touch ID.

I think the GPU power is the big missing gap in the "PRO" area. Apple knows this and is waiting until they can either beef their current GPU size or figure out a way to work with another GPU vendor(AMD), or some sort of eGPU or external GPU box support..

A high end and powerful GPU is still a defining feature on a PRO computer..

They figured out the CPU, now just the GPU.

I was a little iffy on the white bezels but they turned out to be a non-issue. I use a dark wallpaper and they just blend into the room background. I’m loving the touch id on the keyboard.

I think they'll keep the 32 inch iMac Pro and the rumored non-XDR 32 inch Apple monitor under wraps until later this year or early next year.

They look terrible in dark mode when I saw them at my Apple Store. That’s my opinion

And I have seen YouTubers mention how the white bezels blend in with the walls, but they don’t blend in at all when they’re not being used. Something they should’ve pointed out, cuz you still get a big black screen, that white bezel doesn’t anything but put a border around it. So the point is kinda moot to me.

Plus, I use a desk lamp, and I don’t like the white bezels being illuminated when using dark mode with low brightness, it’s harder to see my screen.

I don’t think they’re “waiting,” it’s likely they’re working on it now and it’ll be ready when it’s ready.

Don't care either way--just glad Apple is dumping so many resources into the Mac once again. This transition has already been so much fun to watch and experience. I'm biding my time on this first base model MBA for now and just enjoying the ride. I think in 2022 or 2023, I'll look at an upgrade, but I'm trying to ignore my FOMO while they release all these new designs and chips for now.

Even the MBPs aren't a 100% certainty at WWDC. It depends on how much time and resources they are flinging at it. Given limited resources, the 14"/16" MBP is probably Apple's next priority: the laptops are the big sellers, and the format in which Apple Silicon provides the most impressive improvements.

The M1 iMac didn't appear until months after the 13" MBP and Air - and I do wonder if that got launched "early" because of delays with the bigger MBPs - the 24" iMac could use the M1 and would keep the Apple Silicon news rolling nicely.

Of course, with the Intel transition, announced in 2005, all the Intel machines were out by the end of summer 2006. However, they didn't have a pandemic in the middle of that one...

Well I’ve actually seen them. So they’re most definitely ready to be unveiled soon.

September and October is too bad, it’s just I don’t wanna deal with the upgrading process during skewl

… You've seen them? You'll need to elaborate on that one. Do you work in a factory in Taipei and have just put yourself at risk of getting sued to hell?

There was some indication that the iMac was supposed to launch at the November 2020 event, but got delayed. For example there was a big leak that the foxconn factory had started mass production on a new iMac last fall, and there were a bunch of iMac rumors circulating around that time too.

No, sorry. I misspoke. I have not actually seen the new devices in any shape or form.

This is why leaks are important for users though… so we can plan our purchase and not buy one when a successor is imminent…

Then why did you say so in the first place? Your remark was definitive 🤪

Two possibilities: 1) they were lying 2) they were telling the truth but now playing dumb

Either way there’s no way to tell. So it’s just as credible as me claiming I saw the iphone 19.

If they push the imac m1x till this fall, I am really really hoping the mac pro jr. gets announced as well so I can determine which one suits my needs the most.
