I know the future is towards a smaller phone (wish it wasn't). But I highly doubt Apple will do that, at least right now.

I do not think bluetooth headphones have taken off as much as it needs to. I know, I will be mad and punching a wall..

Battery life sucks, without bluetooth. Now ill have another device draining my phones battery.

I think the point is that they'll drop the headphone jack, but work more on getting headsets with Lightning connectors (and provide earbuds with them?), as well as producing adapters. So you won't be stuck with Bluetooth.

I can see them doing this. But at this point in the cycle? Maybe not yet.

I use wired... don't care for bluetooth headphones.

I can absolutely see Apple dropping the headphone jack. Look at their history. Monkeying around with jacks is what they do all the time... probably the biggest complaint generator they have is people being annoyed with them changing a jack. It would probably be cheaper for them (and more compact) to go to just the one jack, and they would also make more money on licensing lightening headphones.

As crazy as it might sound to a lot of people, this would actually be a smart business move on Apple's part...

A large portion of the iPhone install base just use the white earbuds included in the box. Assuming Apple updates its earbuds for the Lightning port, it wouldn't be an issue for those people. Others (like myself) are exclusively using a Bluetooth connection for all of their audio output. Most importantly, there are many others who still need to use the 3.5mm jack. This is where Apple happily sells you its $20 adapter.

They would simultaneously reduce manufacturing costs, while making additional profit on the adapters and licencing special headphones for the Lightning port. I could see Apple advertising the superior qualities of it's Lighting port and how 3.5mm is a relic of the past.

Is it pro-consumer? No, but there's a reason Apple has so much money in the bank. This rumor is completely believable.

We can say all we want but folks will still buy their exclusive head set and adapter and it'll be closer to $40 for that adapter. Well because that's what the share holders want

I'm also skeptical. If the reason for this is just to make the phone thinner, it's already thin enough. Make the phone thick enough to include a standard headphone jack and give us more battery. That's what I think.

That doesn't really follow their prior actions. Look at the Macbook... gone are all the connectors but one. Even if its not an issue with being thinner, it fits their model of simplicity of design.

I use the headphone jack frequently to be able to listen to things while there is a lot of background noise. I really need the jack. A BlueTooth headphone is a lot bigger than just the earbuds.

To be fair, the original MBA only had one accessory port, current ones have what, three? (and an SD card slot on the 13")
