I noticed something, when I put the watch on, and unlock my phone, it used to say unlocking and then unlocked by this iphone. Now, it still unlocks the watch, it's just I don't get the message any more.

did you change your settings for Face ID mask detection? I still get the message for my Ultra but not for my S7...
actually i went and disabled/reenabled iphone unlock in watch app, it started working again, couldn't find a way to delete the thread!
Probably better that you didn't delete your thread; your solution may help someone else with the same problem.
