I know this is an Apple forum and the discussion will always be biased towards them. I am a long term Apple user and I would really like to give a Windows 8 phone a try before I sign up for another 2 years of iPhone 5 and iOS. I don't have any complaints about the iPhone since I stood in line for the original in 2007, but as a tech-geek, it's almost getting boring to me. I love trying new things and that's extremely difficult when it comes to phones since you're signing 2 years of your life away. Ideally, I would wait 1+ months for Windows 8 and their phones to come out, try it out for 30 days and if I don't like it, exchange for an iPhone 5. However, I have a strong feeling that if I switch my phone, I'll lose my unlimited data plan with the iPhone (anyone know if that's true?). I also have a strong feeling that I will be dissapointed in the Windows 8 phone just like I've been dissapointed in most MS products over the past 10+ years.

Anyway, I guess I was seeing if anyone else was facing this dilemna with the iPhone 5 vs Windows 8 (or an Android phone).

I've previously used WP 7.5 and like it, more so than Android. The upcoming Lumia 920 seems like a great phone--like the design, potentially killer camera and a handful of features not present on the new iPhone. That being said, I really love iOS and how it seemlessly integrates into my Apple household so I'm sticking with the iPhone but will possibly also get a Lumia 920 once it's finally released. I like to have a backup phone and enjoy trying out the alternatives to iOS.

Just out of curiousity, do you buy the other phone off contract? Can you easily switch sim cards between phones?

I would love to do this but I imagine the Lumia 920 off contract price tag will be high and if I can't use my iPhone sim card in it, it's pretty much a small wi-fi only tablet, right?

My next phone will be WP8. I used a WP7 for nearly a year. I really want the Lumia 920.

Offhand I'm not certain what type of sim the Lumia will use but there are always adapters. I use a microsim adapter in my Galaxy Nexus to hold the microsim that came in my iPhone 4s (did the same with my old Samsung Focus windows phone) with no problems, think I originally bought it on Amazon for a couple $. Hopefully I'll be able to find a nanosim adapter if needed.

As far as buying the Lumia, I'll probably just keep an eye on Craigslist for someone who wasn't happy with it, likely for a bit less than full retail. I don't spend much $ on other hobbies/etc so I'm fortunate in that I have a wife who tolerates my penchant for electronic gadgets ;).

Hmmm...now I'm tempted to pick up a cheap Windows 7 phone and try it out with my iPhone 4 sim. I could'nt find a straight answer online whether it would work so thanks for confirming!

Same here, having a tech geek vice is better than a lot of other vices :)
