I remember when the 4.7" and 5.5" were released, it kicked off a cycle (lasting about 2 years) of analysis paralysis between choosing and sticking with one of them. I went through 3 iPhone 6, 2 6S, eventually settled on 7 Plus and now 8 Plus.

I have this feeling it will be the same between the 8 Plus and the X once I get it - sure it will have the OLED and Face ID, but the bigger screen, battery and familiarity of Touch ID will probably cause me to flip flop between the two a few times.

Anyone feeling me on this?

no.

Only real reason to worry is if a rumour of next years price drop being true you lose a lot of money on resale. Apart from that whats to worry about?

(if money is a issue for you)

Lmao that's unanimous so far.

So you telling me that you're confident, even before trying it, that the X will excel in every single thing over the 8 Plus, bar none?

I'd love that to be true... but familiarity is a strong emotion.

Just get what you like. If you are cool with the somewhat dated design, yet super solid 8. Go for that. If you like trying new tech and are willing to adapt to Face ID and the new gesture based UI. The X is for you. No real wrong choice here.

no agonizing at all on my end. It's the X for me. I guess if something crazy happened like a delivery date in 2/2018 or something I may just get a plus but it wouldn't be because I agonized over which one I wanted.

I really wanted to get an X, but that small little screen I just can't handle. Getting one for my SO though. It fits her tiny hands.

Neither phone is particularly fresh in terms of design so you can’t really go wrong with either. The 8 looks like it’s predecessors and the X looks like many of the top Android offerings apart from the unsightly notch. It all depends on which shade of grey you want in 2017 as far as I can see.

It's all about the X, man. ;)

I'm having a harder time thinking if I should skip this anniversary one and wait for 2018/2020 models. Hard to predict.

2007-2009: 2G, 3G, 3Gs
2010-2013, 2016: 4, 4s, 5, 5s, SE
2014-2017: 6, 6s, 7, 8
2017-2020?: X

2nd gen had 5 models (sans 5c) and 1st gen had 3. We don't know if 3rd gen gets 5 next year like a 8s or 9 model.

Seems tick-tock is more first two years (tick), last two (tock). 2019/2020 X could return to metal. Better color options by then and 4+ GB RAM. Seems like X will age like the 4 and 6 but gets salivated based off new cosmetics.

My interest on the 8 Plus is mostly nonexistent because I don't like the 6 series and don't like glass rears. Started hating it by the 4. Rather have a cheap matte 7 over 8 Plus. Chipping on 7 and high SAR is concerning though.

X has everything 8 Plus has and more. Has black front and white back. 8 Plus only has white back with white fronts. I don't like space gray. Silver 8 Plus would end up being my only option.

It's all about the new seXy.

OP- You’re putting way too much time and effort on something insignificant.

You completely missed the point of my question. I am not agonizing over which one to get, I have the 8 Plus and will have the X as soon as it's available.

The agonizing part is over which one I make my daily driver.

Nope! Spent about a week after the keynote thinking it over, realized the 8 did everything I needed a smartphone to do, and bought that. I’m putting the $300 saved toward a new lens for my DSLR once Black Friday rolls around.

You do realize the X has a glass back as well right? :)

I have a 6s - my wife got an 8 plus yesterday and it seems great but..
I will get an X if it turns out to be as good as it seems to be, etc. I suspect it might be a release down the road to settle down. If there are issues I may just wait until next year to get new phone and just save money or replace my old MPB. I guess I want the X although the 8 plus seems great

It's never been about whether to get the X or an iPhone 8 plus. It's more a choice between the X and a flagship android phone. For me, the 8 Plus is more of the same that I've had for 9 years on Apple. It's fine for someone new to Apple or who just wants an appliance that you stick in your pocket and need to reliably work. The 8 is nothing new or revolutionary and it's not cheap.

The X of course isn't cheap either, but at least it introduces some new features and a bit more of a design change. Other than that, FaceID will be a different way to unlock your phone and pay for things, but I'm not sure it will be *better*. Augmented Reality will take some time to develop.
