I'm sure this will be unpopular opinion, but I upgraded from Xs to 12 Mini. I originally wanted 12 Pro, but it was too big in contrast to the Xs. I still have the Xs with me and I still can't believe Apple;

1. bumped up the screen size of the 12 Pro instead of keeping it align with previous models (I get it 11 was bigger than 11 Pro, but 11 was on a LCD screen). The rounded corners and size of X/Xs/11 Pro is just perfect.
2. The 12 Mini is pretty cool with the size, but something I miss is the telephoto zoom. I tried the 12 Pro but it was just too big for me and the squared off edges just doesn't help me out.

Am I alone? Anyone else?
I'm with ya. I do miss the ole 5.8, for me it was perfect. So much so I just picked up a brand new XS just to have one on the cheap.

If the 11 Pro had LCD instead of OLED, I would as well. Alas, I get PWM migraines so it's a no-go.

I actually prefer the design of the 12 and 13, I think they‘re really some of the best looking iPhones so far.

However, as others have said, I do miss the size of the X. I didn‘t expect the small jump from 5,8“ to 6,1“ to make such a big difference, but even the standard 13 Pro is very close to being too big to be comfortable to hold for me.

i'm torn. i liked the round edges of the 11 but the 12/13 reminds me of my old iPhone 4 and 4S. that said i wouldn't want them to go back. stick with the flat sides and if anything they need to make future iphones look closer to the iPhone 4/4S. i hope the next models have circular volume buttons :D

I really liked my XS Max and the overall design but have always been a huge fanboy of the 4 and 5 design. I currently use the 12 PM and absolutely love this phone. To the point where the 14 (or 15) will really have to "wow" me in order to upgrade during that time.

However, as someone else said earlier in the post, no one is wrong for their taste in design. Ultimately, with the cheap cost of putting a new battery in IPhones now a days, you can run older phones for years and years.

I strongly disagree. IMH the 12 series is the most attractive since iPhone 5.

I disagree with you. I have iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X. The rounded edge is more comfortable to hold than sharp edge of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 design. Try to hold iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max with one hand, it is terribly uncomfortable.

I'd love all these iPhones to be 2x thicker to accommodate a larger mAh battery so all of them would have at at least 2x the battery life.

Bendgate would never occur if Apple did this.

Then allow for 67W wired USB-C fast charging to achieve 50% in 29 mins and 100% in 119 mins.

12W wired USB-A slow charging would reach 100% by 5 hours to allow for over night charging.

So imagine doubling the hours below

Doubling the hours means the need to recharge would be delayed by a factor of 2.

So instead of needing to replace the battery on month 25 you can delay it to month 49.

In my eyes, 6s was the nicest looking iPhone with rounded edges but I also love the current design, especially because it's easier on my hands (my hand would cramp if I was on a long call on my 6s (caseless)). I know I'm in the minority who loves the squared off edges. :p

11 Pro design may be more comfortable but it’s more prone to slipping out of your hands. 12/13 series gives you better grip albeit slightly less comfortable. Worth the trade off in my opinion.

Im so torn on this. I absolutely love the rounded edges and size of the 11 pro. The look of the 12/13 pro is beautiful. The 13 pro is way too heavy for me for everyday use. I have my 11 pro still but also jus thought a 12 pro to test-drive to see if I can get used to it. It's the same weight as there 11 pro much lighter than the 13 pro. So we shall see!

You really find the 1/32" difference in width and 1/8" difference in height to be that meaningful?

I do, actually. Even the X felt decently large in my hands, so of course further stretching the size is going to be noticeable. Maybe it‘s also the square shape that makes it feel a bit more substantial.

If you have different sized hands, it‘s probably not an issue for you.

The answer is not necessary a bigger battery but rather better battery tech. Solid state batteries have 2.5x the density of Lithium Ion batteries, lighter, charge 4-6x faster and are safer as there is nothing in them that that is flammable.

When will it be economical enough to replace current battery tech in Apple devices?

I believe the 6.1” display on iPhone 12 Pro takes up the same body size or even less than the 5.8”.

I suppose they could have just shrunk the phone further, but they probably found that the average consumer would prefer a larger display.
Absolutely not less and not even the same. If you just look on the compare site on Apple websites, it’s physically just bigger.

I agree with you partly. I like square design more as a design language. Looks more modern than old rounded ones. But for holding a phone, previous rounded edges were far more comfortable in hand. Also I miss 5,8” screen - that’s why I couldn’t decide between 12 and 12 mini last year and 13 and 13 mini this year. I like so many things about them both but I would love to have screen somewhere in between.

The flat design is aesthetically pleasing. But the rounded chassis is more functional. It is easy to “dig in” to the rounded design when picking up the phone from a surface.
