Any one else yawn at this thread?

Cool you don't like the 5s but surely you could of added this to the other threads of people confessing the same.

I enjoy my 5s along with millions of others. No biggie that you don't like it, left one more for someone else.

Not really an upgrade over the 5......
if you have a 5, it's a minor update.
You guys are funny..... 5 to 5s is one of if not the biggest jump from number to s version. Minor update indeed lol.

I yawned at this thread :p
Beat me to it!

Although the 5s looks great, and is considered to be slightly faster than the 5, I saw no reason to upgrade. The only feature I would be gaining is the fingerprint sensor which I'm not all that crazy about. I'll stick to the 5 I have because it's been working great for me so far. Can't see the point of spending a lot of money on a new phone when there's not much of a change from the one I have.

The upgrade makes a lot of sense to people on a normal 2 year update cycle. Updating every year is unnecessary for most users.

I have to agree that the move from a 5 to a 5s could be a bit underwhelming. For me however, it has been a game changer. My company enforces an Exchange Activesync security (long passcode requirement) and entering it in 50+ times a day was driving me nuts. The fingerprint authentication is a godsend for me. But I realise my situation is probably somewhat unique..

I'm basically getting the 5s for free once I sell my 5 :)

I always do; sometimes I make some $$. Having said that, the only reason I can upgrade every year is that I have other family members (3 others) who are on my account that don't care if they upgrade. I always can upgrade on someone else's account. To me it's a complete no-brainer. Use the upgrade, get a new free & better phone.

If I did NOT have upgrades to use every year, I don't think that I'd be willing to pay the big bucks (but I'd be sad).

I don't feel compelled to upgrade my work iPad every year (still have the 3) for some reason... maybe it's because the trade in value is so much less. However, I just may upgrade my mini if it has retina & fingerprint sensor. I have already received an offer of $192.50 for my white wifi 16gig from NextWorth. I can justify a $100 loss on a product I got MUCH enjoyment out of in the last year. :D

The 5s is significantly faster than the 5. The difference is; that the difference in speed is small with normal, daily use, of the average iPhone 5/5s owner currently.

Was at the Apple store here in town looking at the Gold 5S, played with it for a bit, messed with the fingerprint technology, and compared it side by side with my Black Iphone 5.

I liked the color and the home button looks good but I really had ZERO desire to upgrade my phone. Now I gotta tell ya this is the first time I have not upgraded ASAP since the 3g.

My 5 works great and I love the IOS7 release which makes me feel like I have a new phone anyway. The 5s was a bit faster and I am sure there will be a lot of apps hitting the store that will use the speed and the 64 bit. But for now I am just fine waiting for something with a bigger screen and a new look.

BTW not bashing the iphone 5s at all, it is a great phone, just did not give me the desire to upgrade, which is a new feeling for me! :)
Anyone else?

Quite the same for me.
I don't feel the "urge" to upgrade from my 5 like it was in the past.
Overall I think 5S is a great product, and I'm attracted by 64-bit and a slightly better battery, but I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade any soon.

What does screen size have to do with whether something is 'meh' or not? If the next iPhone has a 5" screen does that mean the one following it has to have a 6" screen to not be meh?

Exactly. I don't get why people think the 5S is underwhelming if 5 owners aren't compelled to upgrade. Outside of the extreme tech geeks that always have to have the latest and greatest, who needs a new phone every year. Do you buy a new laptop, TV, Car, appliances every year?

Buy a used 5 and sell the 4s to recoup half the cost.

No offense but the 4s sucks compared to the 5. I've said it before and I'll say it again. LTE. SERIOUSLY THAT ALONE is reason to upgrade. 4s is also heavy like a brick and the small screen is dated.

5s for a 5 user is meh but 5s for a 4s user is a worthwhile upgrade imo. 1 more year without LTE is just too much.

There are countries (like mine) where you do have to pay an extra (10€/month) to have access to LTE network, so I'm forced to use 3G with my iPhone 5 (35€/month for my unlimited plan are expensive enough for my wallet).

In the benchmark it is. In normal day use the difference is next to ZERO so performance is not the main reason to upgrade.

You are completly wrong 3G -> 3GS and 4 -> 4S were big upgrade in some aspect (memory, antenna, camera).
iPhone 5s surely is a jump, but more a "potential jump" for now: m7 and 64-bit are yet to be used.
I'm not bashing the phone at all, I'm probably going to get one by Christmas, but I'm in an "hold on" position for the first time in my history of iPhone buyer.

Yes but only because I have the iphone 5 already so it's not that huge of an upgrade.

I'm sure it's a huge upgrade for people still on the iphone 4 or 4s.

No way; if Apple had put it in a new shell they could easily have sold it as an iPhone 6.

It has an all-new architecture, vastly improved cameras, and it's the first device to make fingerprint recognition a mainstream success.

I have to wonder… Why did you upgrade from 4 to 4s?
I feel the same way as OP about the 5s and I upgraded from the 4 to 4S because the 4S camera was significantly better than the 4. The 5s camera is better than the 5, but I don't find it to be as drastic of a difference as between the 4 and 4S.

I think smartphones have pretty much matured when it comes to speed and performance. I doubt you'll see huge jumps like with previous generations. I have access to both the 5 and the 5s and did some lengthy comparison. Simple apps open about the same. Heavier apps open a good bit faster on the 5s.

Where the 5s really shines is in the camera and when using intensive apps like games, weather channel and other big apps. The fingerprint is kind of cool. I've had all iPhones since the 3G and never really used a passcode but with the 5s, I'm actually using the fingerprint thingy and I've had the 5s since the 20th. The 5s is definitely an upgrade over the 5.

Don't get me wrong, the 5 is a beast and will serve you well but imo, if you are planning on getting the 6, you'll be ok with a 5 if you are a basic user. If you plan on keeping the phone for more than a year, then the 5s will be the much better phone because it's made with the future in mind and will be relevant for a good while!. Here is a video showing the real power of the 5s over the 5.

These topics happen EVERY YEAR.

People said the same thing about the 5 from the 4S and the 4S from the 4. Upgrading every year will mostly just make it less exciting because you're constantly getting the newest one, so you're not leaping huge bounds, you're simply hopping onto the next one.

Every 2 years is the way to go.

I agree with your post but trying to future proof with a phone just doesn't work when there is planned obsolescence. I think you can get 2 good years and maybe a third decent one but after that the battery is dead, the phone is beat up, and generally the OS updates have introduced some noticeable lag. I don't see that changing with any new architecture.

Nope. I upgraded from a 4, so I did anything but yawn. See if you yawn next year! If you yawn next year, Apple may have bigger issues than they know.

imo the 2 smallest upgrades would be the original iPhone to the 3g and the 4 to the 4s. The original to the 3g was just a new back, 3g (if you got it in your area) and GPS. The 4s was just Siri, Faster, and better camera, the thing is tho the 4s had a really bad battery life and was really heavy. So that's why it was my least favorite, nothing much new and a few draw backs the 4 didn't have.

I have a 5 and although I would like the faster processor of the 5S, I didn't upgrade. If the rumors are correct, I will definitely upgrade if the 6 is released with a 4.8" screen in Q2 of 2014.
