well, 45 minutes and £63 later my gas fire has failed it carbon monoxide test and is not worth repairing due to its age and condition, gas repair guy said it's cheaper and easier to buy and install a new one rather than trying to fix it.
He estimated its more than 15 years old.
The spark lead had been disconnected by the previous owner so it couldn't be lit, so it must have been buggered for a while.
The local gas showroom has a cheap gas fire in almost new condition for £100, i known the guy who owns it and hes a decent chap - install is a further £120 - not great when your out of work.
