well, 45 minutes and £63 later my gas fire has failed it carbon monoxide test and is not worth repairing due to its age and condition, gas repair guy said it's cheaper and easier to buy and install a new one rather than trying to fix it.

He estimated its more than 15 years old.

The spark lead had been disconnected by the previous owner so it couldn't be lit, so it must have been buggered for a while.

The local gas showroom has a cheap gas fire in almost new condition for £100, i known the guy who owns it and hes a decent chap - install is a further £120 - not great when your out of work.

My heating is working fine - except my girlfriend refuses to allow it to be turned on.

So, I'm wandering around the house with pretty much all the clothes I own on.

Ah well, at least the gas bill won't break the letterbox when it turns up.

Not much fun being cold all the time, i only turn it on when my GF gets home from work - too tight to have it on myself.

Last week I was in Seattle, and with the wind storms we were without electricity (and thus without heat) until Friday at 11:30pm. It was COLD... (around 40F outside, but it felt colder inside for some reason...)

Nice, its a bit on the dry side down under eh? :p

hahaa, just a bit. last time a checked Melbournes water supplies were around 45% full, and with no rainfall to fill the dams up, the figure is dropping all the time. a local island (philip island for those of you playing in Victoria) had its dams almost dry a few weeks ago.

The heat in my house is out. Fortunately we have two heaters, but only one is working so we can heat all of the house except for the bedrooms.

water restrictions are at stage 3 in melbourne right? well here in geelong we have 24.6% in the reservoirs and we are on stage 4 cant water at all.

my whole garden is almost dead. gotta get one of grey water systems done.

plus the pool cant be filled anymore so its getting very low.
