If you get pissed off because of things like this, a PC really would be a better choice.

Instead of buying a whole new PC, just sell that chip on ebay, get the next fastest one ;)

It isn't just him...I got banned a couple of years back for almost the same thing...the power supply on my B&W went out a couple days after I bought it...I got the common run-around from Apple, no (working) replacement, and banination from the forums. Damn I hate them...(not all of Apple though).

Apple makes it quite clear that they do not tolerate malicious posts on the support forums, though. The boards are there strictly for technical support and troubleshooting and deviation from that intent would only serve to degenerate the usefulness of the tool in which Apple provides for its users.

I'm glad somebody said this. Tech support forums aren't for bitching and moaning about product release cycles. I'm continually amazed by people complaining about product line updates(!) This is the tech industry folks, it moves fast. If you don't like it, maybe it's time to take up gardening.

Agreed with the above post...

How about this, though: Anyone notice how often people get banned from one forums site, then rant about it in another, whether or not the consequences are justified? The event isn't often, but most of the time, after one banning, the rant generates in another forum site instead of not at all.

Another thing: Who's "right" in such situations? And if it's person A, how right is person A and in what specific nature? Sure, person A may have been right to ban person B for inappropriate discussion, but perhaps person B can support that discussion. I think persons A and B are right on their own accounts, but person B cannot support his account of the type of discussion. Person A has the right to take action.

Point being: This thread should be over soon (if not, sent to the dysfunctional waste depository of these forums)

As for the complaints about product release cycles, I'm not even sure why that came about.

Some of you mac zealots need to chill out, and I gurantee none of you who posted in this thread even own a SP 1.8 GHz G5, so take a minute and remove your head from "up there."

I don't own one either, but before you jump on the bandwagon and bitch away, I don't think any one of you is getting what people are complaining about. What?? Technology progresses? No **** Sherlock. The issue is that this is perhaps the shortest product cycle in Apple history, meaning they weren't "progressing" technology, as much as using people to buy the single processor models until they had enough fabricated to make the DP models... simply they knew what they were doing and used the consumer to make money off of in the meantime.

ZildjianKX is not alone, anyone in the mac forums who as much said they agreed the situation wasn't fair got a warning, and many people got banned... yet there are tons of threads saying to return them to the apple stores with your pro cards... strictly "technical" questions forums, ey?

Anyways, chill out goes before you go ragging about technology and think for a minute that Apple has some cruel corporate marketing at times, and probably pissed off a lot of customers this time.

The Yikes machines lasted about 6-7 weeks. Actually 6 weeks twice, because the 400MHz machine was replace by a SLOWER machine after 6 weeks, then killed 6 weeks later.

Those that had machines on order got a slower machine at the same price. ;)

The SP G5 1.8 got nearly twice the mileage, or the same. Depends on how you look at it, but it was replace by a FASTER MACHINE.

I bought a Yikes G4 400 the day they shipped, didn't have a problem with the changes or short life.

I know I said I wouldn't respond, but I had to :)

Yeah, you got a point. On page 1 I said I was over it, yet people keep on ragging on me... go figure. My only complaint is that Apple should be updating the entire line faster than they are now if they're really going to be going for 3.0 GHz by next year. As long as they don't mess up Moore's law... well, its not like Apple goes by Moore's law anyways.

Peace.

I saw the original thread on Apple Forums, both here and there ive seen 2 statements that do not apply to G5 1.8.

1.) We should not stop Apple from advancing technology.

The G5 Dual 1.8 is not an advancement in technology it is the same, but slower technology found in the 6 month old G5 Dual 2.

2.) The G5 1.8 was not the Latest and Greatest, the Dual 2 was and still is.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Some of the helpers have been very rude, one helper replied to a new thread and called a member "pathetic" for feeling cheated by Apple... how is that professional?

I made a series of posts in a thread, and was banned before I even received the first E-mail... how is that my own damn fault? A lot of people are unhappy... and I think that's Apple's own damn fault.

Edit - I won't be replying to this thread anymore... if anyone feels like complaining about how I see things, I won't be answering.

Thats the point though isn't it. The helpers aren't professional. No one gets paid, they simply help, they do a good job, sometimes they make a msitake and get fed up and say the wrong thing. If you got banned, you probably deserved it. I've seen the behind the scenes stuff, they give people the benefit of the doubt a lot more than I'd like personally. Believe what you want. The forums aren't for complaints, and people who use them shuold appreciate those who spend a lot of their time just trying to help. I left the apple forums for a while because of jerks who attacked me personally unprovoked. its happened to a number of other really valued members of the forum. Reading the TOS and just plain being curteous on the apple forums would go a long way to making things there a lot better. The helpers and mods are, by and large, really great people.

In my hmble opinion it seems pretty weak that apple ban posters in their own feed back fourm. Hell people are only going to post their if they have a serious problem and are too slack to take it back to their nearest store. Can't they accept a little critisism.

I've got a single 1.8 G5, and I'm incredibly pleased with it. It's perfect for what I need, and runs really, really fast. I've had it for about a month before the update, but honestly, who cares? It's a computer. So Apple put another processor in it. Do you think that Apple should send out free kits (costing hundreds of dollars) to all the 1.8 owners so they don't feel left out? Or do you think that they should sacrifice sales and wait until the next update so that people don't feel burned? It's a ridiculous argument.

And if Apple's support forums ban people, it's probably because they did stupid stuff. If you post anything whiny then you'll probably get banned. If you ask in a sensible manner for some help, you'll get help. If you start bitching out Apple about how they screwed you with your power supply, who cares? Nobody wants to hear you bitch and moan. The time spent whining could be better spent trying to get a new power supply.
