Anyone familiar with this strange folder I found in my preferences?

Is this Russian?

It is the name of a folder I found in my preferences tonight.

have no idea what it is. I have dragged it to my desktop until I figure it out.

If Russian, what does it mean? If not Russian, I wonder what it is?
 
Are there any contents within that folder? If so, copy n paste those file names here so we have a bit more to go on.

that's russian, just some weird encoding which i dont know ... maybe some dos?
 
No, it's empty

Could it have been some sort of malware? I am relatively new to mac - 2 years, so i am still suffer from pc paranoia.
 
I would just delete it and sleep like a baby tonight

That's not cyrillic, the alphabet used with the russian language and derived from the greek alphabet, those are just symbols you can produce by using your keyboard by using OPTION/ALT+ or OPTION/ALT+SHIFT+ .

It could've come from almost anywhere. If the folder is empty and your computer is running fine, then don't worry about it. In fact, if your computer is running fine then why are you poking around in your preferences folder?

i dont know about Cyrillic but they are russian (one way or another) i downloaded bunch of music and those are names for the songs

Why would a file with that name be in my preferences? Also, it is empty

Also,ran my repair disk permissions....usual lot of "stuff" came up....
'permissions differ on....."

"warning: suid file......

many say won't be repaired.

That happens to some versions of OSX. What build are you running? And can you post a screen shot.
 
Hope it wasn't something bad for the mac

Can't imagine that I would have installed anything harmful.
 
how do i take a screen shot of my repair disc permission details?

Please tell me how to do so, and then post it

CMD+SHIFT+1 or CMD+SHIFT+2 or CMD+SHIFT+3 or CMD+SHIFT+4.

CMD+SHIFT+4 let's you select the area you want shoot.

Then use Flickr or any other image hosting service and embed the image URL via the
insertimage.gif
button found on top of the text field when you make a post here.

But I don't think those commands work when you've started up from the installer DVD, do they?

Sorry, but now I'm a little bit lost. 😕
Where was there talk about the Installer DVD?

And yes, those commands can not be used while booted from the Installation or Restore or Upgrade DVD.

So you selected the area by making a rectangle around whatever you wanna shoot (there are even the pixel width and height visible on the bottom right corner of the rectangle) . Then you let go and a file is saved to your Desktop, possibly called something like this:

Or you use Applications / Utilities / Grab[/B] -->
