Usually there's an embargo if the device is in high demand; I'm not sure what demand they expect compared to supply though.

Friends of Family or Apple Employees get good deals... there's a range of staff discounts for use by staff for themselves, family AND customers (if they see fit).

Luckily, the cost of mine will be foot by the company I work for. I'll buy it off them if I ever plan to leave

I am as well! I've been waiting for about 3 years for this bloody Skylake update! A little less than 2 hours to go!
