Just called up my local ATT and the girl said they are only expecting 30-40 units? Another said they can not reveal that information. Has anyone confirmed the 100+ people are saying the should be getting?

Most I've heard from an ATT Store is 50. I'll start calling them all tomorrrow, and even call a few Apple Stores to see what they have to say.

Mine said they had no idea, but based on interest they expect to run out no matter how many they get.

I wonder what the comission schedule looks like on these... from my understanding, most phone salespeople get a cut of each new activiation they sell. With the iPhone, the activations are done over iTunes and not in person. Where does that leave any salesperson to go above & beyond to get us our phones?

I hope they will be able to give us a number come thursday so I can pick a store to wait in line at. Man I thought these things were going to be easy to find, not it looks like its going to be the Wii and PS3 all over again.

I called the one I'm going to today and they had no idea how many they'll be getting yet. Also, they said they were anticipating campers. I'm disappointed as this is a small community so I'm not anticipating a very large number of stock. I will probably end up camping overnight Thursday now. :( :( :(

Think about it, less than 2000 stores will have these. When the WII and PS3 were released, every store got some. The PS3 had less than a million released at many more stores. Even if the iPhone only has a million released, that will be split by less than 2000 stores= more to go around.

Apple is not going to make the same same mistake Sony made with the PS3 release(meaning limiting the number at launch and 2 weeks later have systems sitting on shelves in most stores collecting dust).

6/29 will be the highest sales day for iPhone. Can't see Apple letting people leave on 6/29 leaving without one if they want one. Also. Apple stores will be open until midnight on 6/29. Do you think they would stay open until 12 if tehy would be sold out by 6:45?

Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I think if you want one you will be able to get one come 6/29.:apple:

That's been my thought, as well.

If the AT&T/Cingular stores are staying open until 10:00 and they aren't doing any in-store activations, they must have a ton to go around.

Unless they're planning on loads of foot traffic and try to convince people to buy a Blackberry Curve instead, for the three hours after they've sold out.

And if you can't get one on the 29th, you'll almost certainly be able to get one on the 30th. There's no way that everyone who buys one is going to have decent credit, and an additional $700 deposit is going to be a very rude awakening to some folks... so there's bound to be some returns :D

I dont trust the lowball numbers - like you said, why would you need to stay open late if you can sell out of them in 30 minutes (since activation is iTunes-based, the cashier just rings up the sale, swipes the CC and you're out the door). 100 is more like it IMO - thats about 60-75 minutes (3 minutes per transaction, 4-5 registers open). Still not a big reason to stay up late.

Plus if Fedex is delivering them in the afternoon, I wouldnt be surprised if we know how many each store is getting since the boxes will be walking in the door while everyone is camping.

A BlackBerry Curve on iDay? That would be like settling for the fat chick when it is last call at the bar.
