I really don't need GPS. another thing is I owned the Sport for a week last year and took it back as I couldn't justify the price.

I always wanted to get one again and now is a great time but I don't see a single reason to get Series 2. I even kept the brightness down on that one week purchase I made previously!

I want the concrete grey strap so to get that and the watch I could keep the cost down with S1.

Anyone else not bothering with S2 and getting S1?

I've sold my AW sport for £205 and buying the series 1. I don't run or swim so no need for series 2.

I've already got a leather loop I'll use with it.

I am not getting either as I am happy with my Series 0. But between S0 and S2 the CPU and display are the only things that interests me. S0's display is difficult to read in sunlight, but other than that it is good enough. S1 most likely has identical display and glass as S0. I'm not sure if I'd pay the extra 100 for the better display.

You could think all the times you have struggled to see what's on your iPhone's screen and use that as a measurement. S1's screen probably isn't as bright as iPhone's screen.

I think the S0 has a screen brightness of around 450 or 500 depending on which source you read and an iPhone 6S is about 550.

So doubling it on the S2 seems extremely bright.

Personally I never had any issues with screen brightness on the S0 so I was surprised to see it raised so much.

I sold my Apple Watch Sport and just ordered the series 1.

I didn't like the fact that the series 2 is about 1mm thicker, and is heavier. The only thing I really like about series 2 is the water proof feature. I don't use it to track exercise so I don't care about gps

I was however annoyed that the series one comes with no power adapter. For a device that needs to be charged daily you'd think they'd include it. Seems cheap to me. They also shortened the charge cable from 2m to 1m. Not as big a deal but I did appreciate the longer cable.

No it just gets the Updated internals (CPU/GPU) but misses out on GPS, waterproofing and brighter screen.

I don't run or swim and found the old screen bright enough so paying an extra £100 doesn't seem good value.

I'm keeping an open mind since it will be my first watch purchase.

My initial instinct is to get a Series 2 SS but as I don't expect be doing much swimming I find myself considering the Series 1 to be the more sensible purchase. However, I would prefer SS over aluminium.

Since I don't really have any "hands-on" experience with AW's I'll got to a store in the next month or two and make a more informed purchase then after trying some on.

I wonder if it was due to the sapphire screen on the SS being more difficult to see in sunlight. I never really had too much problem with my Sport with the Ion-X glass. Wouldn't say no to brighter, though!

Series 1 38mm SS from BB for $349 so I jumped on it a few days ago.

I suspect from the original post that series 1 refers to the updated series 1 watch with the S1P processor (and not the original apple watch sport).

What you purchased from bestbuy a few days ago is probably the original watch, and not the series 1.

Me.
I don't need GPS and I don't swim so I can save $100 and get the same dual core chip. I was tempted by the brighter screen but I don't think it is worth $100

Yep I was referring to the 'new' Series 1 which had dual core.

I'm the same as you, recoil80 — just don't need waterproof, gps or even a bright screen (had the original Sport for a week last year and was turning brightness down in fact!).

So, S1 for lazy people (not into fitness) and S2 for healthy folk.

I will use it for outdoor activities, but I always have my iPhone with me so the build in GPS is worthless.
I like hiking and they showcased a great app for that, but I don't want to stay too many hours far from home without the ability to receive or make an emergency call. I think it would be great to leave the iPhone into a knapsack and rely on it just to forward stuff (including GPS) to the watch

If you want SS consider a series 0. Very reasonable prices now although only the 38mm are left.

yeah the S2 is the real apple watch sport

I have a Series 2 on order right now with delivery scheduled sometime in mid October. As much as I wanted the built-in GPS, i'm not sure how often I'd take advantage of it. So I just ordered a Series 1 which will be delivered on Sept 16. I'll give it a go and see if I truly need the GPS and brighter screen. I don't swim nor do I shower with watches on so the water resistance is moot to me.

It's a difference of $145 CAD with AppleCare+ between the S1 and S2. I didn't feel too comfortable paying almost $700CAD for the Series 2 due to the lack of real advancement between the S1 and S2. Hopefully I can live with the S1 and wait until S3 or even S4 to debut some big advancements. I currently use a FitBit Charge HR as a daily watch and fitness tracker so that's the benchmark it needs to beat for me in terms of functionality and usefulness.
