Was very tempted by the 16 especially since it's really nice and light but the lack of always on display was a dealbreaker for me when deciding between 16/16Pro. I got way too used to having the always on display with my 14Pro and love that I can just glance at my phone to see if there are any notifications (vs having to tap on it to turn on the screen)...

I really tried, I spent around 30 mins in the Apple Store. But I have been using ProMotion for several years, and going back to 60hz feels like crap. Thankfully, the base 17 is rumored to have ProMotion. I really don't like how heavy and dense the Pro phones are, so I'm looking forward to get the 17 base next year

Yes. And I love it. Went from a 13 Pro.
I just couldn’t stomach the additional weight of the pro phones. This year was definitely the right year to go non-pro and I don’t regret it. This phone is so light and thin and lovely to hold and, also, pink.

Did the same from 14 pro, love the lighter weight. I run with my phone and it makes a noticeable difference in the pocket. Also I looked at my photo library from the past 2 years and only had 12 photos where I used the telephoto lens. Won’t miss that at all.

I was worried about the lack of ProMotion, but tested it by turning my 13 Pro down to 60hz and didn’t notice the difference — aging eyes, I guess. So I got a regular 16. When I get it, I’ll come back with comments.
Awesome!

So true!

Yes. 15 Pro to 16 Plus and it's amazing. Love the Ultramarine color and this device feels lighter than I expected. Battery life so far seems to be a massive improvement too. I'm one of the lucky ones who's eyes don't really notice much of a difference with 60 vs 120Hz.

I didn’t even think about this! Good idea !

Thinking about this myself, currently with 13P and after testing both in the store yesterday, I love how light 16 is vs 16P… Money is not an issue as company pays for the phone.
I also changed ProMotion to 60hz last week to see if I get used to it - I did, but of course I still notice a difference (having Ipad Pro does not help haha). But it’s not a dealbreaker… Am more “worried” about slightly worse camera (just slightly) and regretting missing longer lens (though I don’t like they put 5x on regular Pro this year, think that 3x is muc more useful…)

The only thing stopping me doing this is the lack of ProMotion

And Apple knows that, and that's why they nerf the non-Pro displays!

I went and saw the phones at the Apple Store yesterday. I loved the brighter colors on the non-Pro phones, as well as the thinner, lighter design. But I just don't think I can downgrade to 60Hz. Not when I've been using ProMotion on my phone since 2022 and on my MacBook since 2021. It would be like going back to LCD from OLED or going back to an HDD from solid state. Okay, maybe not that dramatic, but to me 120Hz is the next step in display technology that is here to stay and has replaced its predecessor. I'm fully accustomed to it now. Every time I use my Windows PC with a 60Hz monitor, it feels choppy to me, a noticeable downgrade from my MacBook. I think if my MacBook were 60Hz, it'd be an easier choice. But having to use them both side-by-side would annoy me.

I don't know, I haven't made a final decision yet, but it's very likely I'll be getting the ProMax rather than the Plus. With the rumors that the 17 models will all have ProMotion, maybe next year is the year to go non-Pro.

Congrats! Love the new camera shape! Is the camera much worse than pro except zoom! ?

another switcher from 13Pro to 16Plus. I too changed my settings to 60Hz limit a couple of weeks back and couldn’t really see a difference so figured I wouldn’t miss Promotion. I’m really happy with the 16+. It feels excellent in hand, much nicer than the 13Pro. The Teal is stunning. The battery is fantastic so far too. Positive all around so far!

i turned it off too. Didn’t notice a difference after a few days. And this phone is so delightful and light.

Oh we all know next year’s models will have us hooked with other things for the pro models though

I’d love to get the 16 and save some $. I notice the 120hz though, and really appreciate it on my 13 Pro. I was 100% for the 16Pro (max) but do think the 16 and 16+ has a lot more value.

At present , holding anyway as no stock and delivery dates are far ish out.

Will wait and see. As soon as I picked up a 16+ in store and browsed a web page though I noticed the slightly jittery text as I scrolled. :-(

It's crazy that we have jittery text on iphones in 2024 smh

Just got my new 16 (down from a 13 Pro). Early days but: quick start worked well to transfer data across (used a cable rather than wireless). Screen is fine -- I'm not noticing the lack of ProMotion. Camera button thingie is good and reasonably well positioned for both orientations. It's still the honeymoon period but I'm liking it.

EDIT: The purple ("ultramarine") is really nice.

Looking at the phones this year, unless your into pro videography then the regular 16 is the very smart choice to buy. It hardly loses anything to the Pro models and they have a huge weight saving advantage. Personally I'd go for a 16 Plus in Teal, another reason for the standard model is the colours.

When I replace my refurb 14 Pro Max I'll get a refurb 16 Plus for that weight saving. I only really got the 14 for the Dynamic Island.

I've heard that the 14 Pro camera was better then the 15 because of the lenses it has and the lower zoom, looking into it it seems the standard 16 is similar in that it has lower zoom so could be better? I don't know and will have to look into it more.

I think which phone you get depends on the habits you have grown too, like I have never used the always on display, I've just grown to tap the screen or press a button like always with my iPhones. Others may use the telephoto lens a lot, others may never use it, it's a shame the LiDAR Scanner is still a Pro feature though.
