I’m on the Apple upgrade program and eligible to upgrade my 8 plus, but I can’t decide whether to go with the XS or XS max?

I know the XS screen size is basically the same but it felt so tiny in the store! The max felt more like what I’m used to but I don’t need a bigger screen, and I like the idea of carrying a smaller phone around.

Anyone else had/having the same dilemma?
I purchased the XS Max. I had it for 2 weeks and felt it was too big and heavy for my use. I since gave that to my mom and took her 6 Plus. Keep in mind that my use may be different from yours. I'm not active in social media. My use is strictly calls (due to work), texting, Waze (GPS), Viber/FB Messenger (International calling) and that's about it. So the XS is a better size for my use. I'm just holding out for a possible Product Red edition. If by end of March, nothing is release, I'll just get a Gold XS.

To all the switchers, do you notice any difference in battery life? I’m worried XS doesn’t get me comfortably through the day. But I’m basically sold as I use my 7 Plus only with one hand, and the Max is really impossible to use in that way (also I check notification centre quite often)

I'd guess you're in the same position I'm in on iPad sizes and getting to see them in person would probably be handy. If you're not near and Apple Store perhaps an AT&T or Best Buy or possibly Wal-Mart. I think you can read posts all day but your gut will tell you in an instant if you could just hold one. I liked the size of my X but when I grabbed the Max for the first time it didn't feel big to me so that's what I got.

I’ve already did at the Apple Store (I’m Italian and I went to the new Piazza Liberty store in Milan when Tim Cook was there last week :D funny experience) ...I tried both and the Max is definitely not for me. I have small hands. But battery is my first concern... I’m not looking for 1,5 days or more, but at least a full day with some juice left.

Looking at battery comparisons the XS should be slightly less then the 7 Plus (at 100% battery health)... so I should be fine... I think? I’ve read mixed things about XD battery life

To be honest, I've always gotten the Plus sized iPhones since they came out. I had the iPhone 8 Plus and was happy with it up until around May when I kept going into the Apple store and looking at the iPhone X and how nice the screen was and how big it was yet in a compact size. I was a little worried about the smaller form factor at first though. The screen is definitely not as wide but the screen size is definitely bigger from bottom to top.

I basically traded my 8 Plus for the iPhone X straight up with someone and immediately I knew it was the perfect size for me. Honestly, I don't even noticed the width difference while using it. The screen is very nice but I think I'm a bit sensitive to the PVM but not enough to get rid of it. I also noticed that my hand didn't cramp up anymore. I've always wondered why my hand was very sore and I guess I found out why. I generally like to use my phones no matter what size they are, in one hand. My hand quickly recovered and I could do things much more easily with one hand especially when laying down in bed. To me it was definitely worth the switch to the smaller form factor. I think going forward this is the perfect size for me.

Also, I have been very impressed with the battery life on the phone. This could also have something to do with the Apple Watch though, as I don't have to pull my phone out as much to check notifications. I charge my phone at night before bed around midnight and unplug and it'll last me until at least 9pm the following night at I'm usually at around 35% or so. Maybe a little less if I've been using it a little more throughout the day but I definitely get a whole days worth. I've been able use it until noon the day after sometimes as well before having to charge.

Bought the XS but found it is not really a 1 handed phone, too long of a screen. The only 1 handed phone I had was the iPhone 7. Both XS and XS Max are two handed phones, for me. Chose the bigger XS Max because I liked the extra real estate. Both XS and XS Max are great phones, can't go wrong with either one.

I too was tired of caring a + size phone after caring an 7+ and 8+. I got the Max but, soon it felt too big. I got the XR but, it too felt bigger than was comfortable for me. I returned it for the XS. I’m totally satisfied with it. It’s the perfect form verses function for my needs. I don’t watch video on my phone so screen size is non issue.

Went from a Note 8 to iPhone XS. I much prefer the XS size to the Note, which is comparable to my wife’s 7 plus (though a bit narrower and taller).

Went from the 8+ to Xs. I don’t miss the larger screen. But I don’t think the battery life is as good by a small margin. Love the wireless charging.

Tempting to jump back into the screen lottery and get an XS (my 7 plus touch id is playing up on the regular and I want a new toy) As much as the Max being a gorgeous display it is just so big and weighty despite the body being slight smaller than plus. I know I will miss the wider keyboard though.

Yes I did last year. I went from the 7 plus to the X. I liked the new design and Face ID and OLED display but I found it too small. I used it for 10 months and I’ve just upgraded to the max.

Exact same situation and iPhone lineup as you. The 5.8 X surprisingly was way too small for me, and I think I never really cared for that specific display size, even though I thought it would be much ‘bigger’ when I first would saw it in person. When I first heard the rumor that a 6.5 iPhone was allegedly to be released in 2018, I knew I would ultimately not want the 5.8 X and upgrade, in which this phone met all my expectations, and the price point was never a hindrance, because I have everything that I want out of this specific phone.
