Curious to see if after a year with the max version how many people have opted to go back to the smaller 11 Pro normal size, and what the reasons were

Never owned the XS Max myself, just the X but I am toying about going 11 Pro Max or 11 Pro - how useable was the phone daily, when out and about, laying in bed using phone, reaching the top corners etc

I preordered the 11 Pro. I currently use a X. And went back to it from XS Max last week to decide Pro vs Pro Max.
The Max gives me pain in the hand. It’s too heavy. And one hand use is hazardous with my hand. To touch the left side of the screen it requires me to hold in an unsafe way.
I miss the Max battery life. Hopefully with the extended battery life on the 11 Pro I’ll have a decent battery life again.

I can reach corners, etc. one-handed with my Max, but it's a bit unwieldy; the standard size X/XS/11 Pro just feels much more natural in the hand.

I'm really debating sacrificing the addtl screen size and going with a regular Pro this time around, but I know I'll miss the big display.

I had a 6+ and convinced myself the smaller size was better when I upgraded to a normal 8. As soon as I upgraded that to an XS Max though, I knew I'd been kidding myself. The screen real estate is just soooooooo much better for everything, but especially video. And that beautiful OLED screen? Hmmmmmm.
The smaller size is more pocket/car/space friendly, but the screen size massively outweighs it for me. I do have big hands though, so using a bigger phone one handed isn't a problem.

XS Max which I enjoyed for a while but it’s heavy with a decent case on and definitely more of a 2 hander! I’ve ordered the regular 11 this time round, seems like a sweet deal to me with the current pricing and I have a XR for work so I’ve never really had any issues with the LCD, in many respects I prefer it! It’s right in the sweet spot size wise!

Yes. I haven’t ordered yet, but I’m looking at the 11 Pro Max in green. The Face ID improvements alongside the tri-lens camera with ultra wide and night mode are huge upgrades for me. I still think I’m gonna make a trip to an Apple store to see the green first in person, but I’m not color agnostic, I like trying different colors every year for the most part.

I've owned the iPhone 3G, 3Gs, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 5c, 6 Plus, 7 Plus, X, and Xs Max.

My favorite iPhone I've ever had?

iPhone X.

So, yes, I'm going back to the smaller size.

I've had almost the same list, and also found the X size to be just about perfect for my use. So easy to one-hand, much lighter, and easier to carry. I will admit, however, that it's so easy to hold and so smooth in scrolling, that it has become a bit of a habit to use it as an electronic fidget spinner . . .

So I have a 11 Pro on order.

Im considering upgrading from my Xs Max, mainly for the cameras and battery.

And new gadget lust.

I’m going from XS Max back to the original X.

Qualcomm > Intel

Screen real estate is nice but that’s what the iPad Pro is for.

I went from the Xs Max to the 11 Pro. I do not care for the size of the Max. Previous to the Max, I had the X, and I wish I would have kept that, and not upgraded to the Max.

This is what I’m doing. While I love the big screen and I’m sure I will miss it, the size of the phone can be very unwieldy and it is heavy. What put me over the edge to go back to the 5.8” was they made the Pro Max 10% heavier! No way.

I believe their Face ID claim comes from iOS 13. I’m currently running it and Face ID is faster and can be used from angles, so I’m not sure if it is upgraded Face ID hardware (besides the camera).

Me - XS Max in Gold will become 11 Pro in Midnight Green.

I'm a bit sick of the size of the Max and looking forward to something a bit smaller. My original reason for buying the Max was to help with eye strain that I get when reading lots of text, and I made the assumption that the bigger size would display larger text, but that's not the case at all so there was no advantage for me.

The only design I remember doting over was the 4; It seems like that was the last iPhone that made no compromises - calls dropping, you’re holding it wrong. Bad signal, we’ll change the algorithm, fragile back - here, have a bumper.

And I loved it.

An X sized, bezel-less 4 would make me a very happy man. And please, bring back the bumpers !

Hmm interesting. I dont have the best eyesight when i dont have my glasses on so was considering going from the X to the Pro Max. I naturaly thought text would be bigger on the max. I know photos an videos are.

Do most third party apps have the same text size as the 5.8 size, just more real esate?

I adjust the font size in settings but that only works across apple apps ans 'some' supported third party apps

I’m not too sure, but I guess some third party apps may display slightly bigger text. However, it was default apps like Mail and Safari, which I spend a lot of time in, and where there is zero difference.

So I ended up with a phone that was unnecessarily larger for my needs.

I'm downsizing from a 7 Plus to a 11 Pro. I've always loved big screen phones but this summer I finally started getting tired of having to lug around a bulky phone in my shorts or in small/light bags where it'd just feel like a lead weight after a while. So, going to give the smaller size a go.

Another reason for not opting for the Max is that for a big size phone, it really doesn't use its nice big display very efficiently. This spring I bought a OnePlus 6T as a cheaper big size OLED option and although Android didn't work for me as a daily driver OS (Android is fine but my workflow is too Apple based), I LOVED it for watching movies when traveling. That's because it would let me expand the video to fill the entire screen but not the notch area, leaving the "flaps" blacked out so the image would become as big as possible while still being symmetrical. The Max however doesn't allow that, you have to choose between displaying the full widescreen image as a tiny rectangle in the middle with tons of black space around it, or have the video fill the screen but with a big ol' dent in one of the sides which just doesn't fly for me when watching movies.

So, with full screen video watching not being a viable option, I decided I might as well go for the smaller one and enjoy the increased portability instead. My plan is to get an iPad for watching movies (can use it for work too so there's my excuse ). I'm a little worried that the regular 11 Pro will feel too cramped sometimes but let's see.

I would not go back - the extra pixels are a big plus. I was unsure about the larger phone in the beginning, but it hasn't been an issue for me.

I had the XS Max for a week last year before returning it for a regular XS. I was even a Plus user with the 6S and 7 phones. There were two big problems for me with the XS Max. it was even harder to reach areas of the screen one handed due to the edge to edge screen. Also, I was actually having some wrist pain from handling it with one hand. I use my phone a great deal on the move at work and one handed use is critical for me.

(Raises hand here). When and if I can get one, I decided to upgrade to the 11 pro from XS max. I have developed pain in my thumb joint and palm from holding and texting from the max (yea, surprised me too that it happened since I am hardly a teenager constantly texting) and I when I went back to my spare XR temporarily, the I got some relief. Since I didn’t pre-order it, I would assume I will have to wait for a while, but that is ok. The XR is fine for now, but I think going forward I will have to keep a smaller phone footprint.

I have the XS Max and I ordered the 11. Considering changing my order to the 11 Pro (non-max). The better low light camera performance is what sold the new iPhones to me.

Getting the smaller iPhone because the XS Max is just bigger. You’d think Apple would implement split screen and other features that allow you to take advantage of the extra space but they don’t. So there’s really no point to having the larger device for me given that I’m not using it to watch movies or the like.
