The problem with getting the modbook in Canada is that the only distributer wants $500 more than in the USA. The difference in the dollar is only a cent give or take a few tenths. That does not translate to $500.

Downer

The concept is pretty cool, but the market may just not be there. The lack of a "real" keyboard on the modbook turns me away. However, the technology used in the tablet part is pretty cool. I would rather buy a massive Wacom and plug it in than use one of those.

Depends on what you want to use it for really. I have a big tablet already hooked up to my main computer in my home office... but ya know, when I want to sketch for my own enjoyment I've gotten to a point where I don't always want to be sitting at a desk in my home office. I like the idea of being able to lay back in bed while watching TV and sketching. I also like the idea of being able to draw up quick sketch mock-ups in meetings (which I do now on paper). I also did a lot of retouch work recently, and it would have been nice to not HAVE to be sitting at my desk doing it... especially when I'm working outside normal business hours. It gives me the opportunity to be with my family watching American Idol WHILE I work.

I already have plans to also have a setup in my home office where I can snap the ModBook into a "base" -- VESA compatible holder -- and have a keboard and mouse setup, that way it can also be used as a sort of mini iMac when necessary. I also figure Axiotron is going to have a whole line of accessories available over the next few months, maybe even including something like Motion Computing does... which is a "snap-on" keyboard for those times you really want/need it. (similar to this).

And honestly, being my first adventure into a tablet computer, only time will tell if I like it for purposes other than drawing and sketching... we will have to see :)

The points about drawing are well made, but it's especially the last point that I really hadn't considered. If Apple undercut Axiotron, that would set an extremely bad precedent.

So, given your points, what are we looking at? A glass faced A5 sized UMPC (that would be excellent)?

If Apple indeed does it's own tablet, that's what a figure. More the UMPC size, something like the size of Motion Computing's LS800 (but thinner), and something that operates like a big iTouch. I think it'll be very cool for the masses, and for those that tablets appeal to already.

Jeez, I'm going to be in hock to Apple. I already want a new MBP, plus an iPhone. Now this......:p

LOL... tell me about it! I already bought the ModBook (waiting for it to get here)... and then they'll be the new iPhone, a possible iTouch Sr., and who knows what else. I've already got AppleTV and Time Capsule on the list too!

I've said before, even if Apple puts something like this out (which is what I think any Tablet they put out is going to be), it's not really going to cater to the art community. Finger-painting isn't what artists want to do, they want a high-precision, pressure-sensitive pen.

Will still be interesting none-the-less if Apple puts one out...
