you know the beta is going to hit the torrents very soon..

its inevitable..

in fact, i'll search tonight =]

I heard you can't activate the beta OS through iTunes unless your phone is registered with Apple on the Dev programme... Think they use unique identifier or something.... Maybe...

Sounds like something apple would do. I'll bet someone cracks it in the first month

I am still confused.

If I pay $100 to join the developer program, will I be able to download and install a working 3.0 beta?

I am talking about ideally having everything work the way it does in 2.0 now except have landscape mail/SMS, the new spotlight search function, and the other new features that dont rely on push etc. I realize this is a beta we are talking about so some issues would be bound to come up...

you should really look into it. plus, with adc, you can get some massive discounts on mac hardware.

You would pay $100 just to get these minor features a few weeks before everyone else? You must have more money than I do!

gothamm ADC is completely different to the iPhone Developer Program. iDC members don't get discounts on anything.

Anyway, I think the 3.0 beta will probably need to be installed using Organizer in Xcode, rather than iTunes. So if you don't have an Intel Mac then you'll be SOL.

It appears that Apple will be following the same protocol as 2.0, which only allowed a handful of developers access to beta firmware. Rest simply have access to simulator.

Nah. All developers have access to it. If you pay ;)

It doesn't seem that way. Apple is actually advertising access to the 3.0 beta for iDC members.

Maybe they are learning from their mistake with 2.0 - remember, when it shipped it was very buggy and really could have benefited from a large test before it launched.

Apple is asking all developers to sign a new agreement with them before they have access to 3.0. No doubt a lot of ND clauses in there but the website is so slow I can't load the new agreement.

so if we pay to be a developer for the 3.0 software can i register my only iphone and test it on it? will i be able to go back to other software or will i be stuck with the 3.0 beta?

Apple says:
