iPhone Anyone have a copy of eBay 3.6.1?

I've read terrible reviews of eBay 4.0 for iPhone, and I saw what they did to the pre-universal iPad app a few versions ago, so I refuse to update to 4.0. I have 3.6.1 on my phone currently, but no way to transfer/extract it from the phone for backup.

Since Apple has stopped letting us transfer apps from the phone to the Mac, and closed off iOS access to apps like iExplorer, I have no way to get the copy I have off of my phone. I've tried transfer purchases, sync, various file explorers...nothing works.

So now I have a permanent update badge on the app store icon on my phone, and I can no longer tap "update all" without getting the new eBay 4.0 app.

I had previously found a way to extract just the app from the IPA on the iPad version of eBay, and after installing it via drag and drop in itunes, I am no longer prompted to the latest crappy version. I was hoping to do the same with the iPhone version, but Apple has closed multiple doors on that.

So if anyone has 3.6.1 for the iPhone, I can try to extract the app from the IPA like I did with the iPad version, and hopefully install it.

Or you could use the actual website if you don't like what eBay did with their app.
I know actually using a website is so old school, but guess what? It works just fine.
Better than either the old or new apps.
I only have the app for notification purposes, quit using it for actual transactions several versions ago.

Still looking...if anyone still has the 3.6.1 IPA (in your Mobile Applications folder in iTunes/Media), I'd be eternally grateful. You don't even have to share the entire app. Just ctrl-click the IPA file and choose "unarchive", then open the folder it makes and navigate to the "Payload" folder. Inside that is the actual app, which isn't tied to your iTunes ID (at least it wasn't for the old iPad version).

Hi. I have a 3.6.1 IPA backup. I'll have to share it when I get home.

I'm interested how its useful to you as I thought it was bound to my Apple ID?

Thanks!

As mentioned above, if the core app is extracted from the IPA, it's not tied to any account. At least that has been my experience with other free apps that I have shared with my wife, like eBay 3.3.3 for iPad, and the old Pulse news reader, both of which we are clinging to for dear life, since their latest versions are terrible.

Also, when an app payload is installed on the phone via iTunes, the phone doesn't even realize it's installed and therefore doesn't prompt to upgrade to the newest version.

Here we go, let us know how you get on!
IT WORKED! THANK YOU! Interestingly, upon opening the app on my iPad, I wasn't even asked to log in. It already showed my watched items, bids, etc. I assume this is because it shared data with the iPad version of the app also on the iPad. This is great. Thanks again.

*EDIT* Looks like I spoke too soon. Somehow iTunes must have installed another copy of the app I must have had laying around. It was v3.4.0. When I trashed it and dragged the newer one in, I got a not authorized error. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

You're welcome.

I'm just doing it myself just so eBay never nags me to update again (until the old app breaks, I guess). Can't wait to be able to press "Update All" again!

Interestingly it has worked for me, in that it's installed and i'm not being prompted for an update, so it must be an auth thing.

Are you and your wife on the same Apple ID or Family plan?

We are not on the family plan, but the apps I've done this with are both over a year old, so the DRM mechanism could easily have changed I guess.

But it's obviously a great way to avoid updating an app if you are the owner.

Possibly.

I guess there's no way to make a frankenapp out of the binary of my 3.6.1 and the auth of your old 3.4.0?
Great question. I've looked at the contents of the payload, but not being a programmer, I've have no clue which files would need to be replaced. I couldn't even find your name in any of the files, using a powerful search tool, but iTunes shows your name in the "Purchased by" info.

I'd imagine that data is encoded.

I'm sure somebody somewhere has figured out a way to strip it, but I think at that point were definitely in the cracking and hacking ballpark and I'll have to leave the discussion.

@mcdj

The file is zip, so you will need to first covert it to ipa.
then move it to ~/music/itunes/mobile applications
Make sure to backup a copy of the files to your desktop, also a good idea to remove the older eBay file to the desktop

Backup your iPhone, remove the eBay app on the iPhone, then I usually restart the computer. open iTunes, then install the eBay app. Hope that helps

I renamed the zip extension to ipa...is that how you "converted" to ipa? iTunes said it is an invalid file.

you could also unzip the file. Make a new folder named eBay 3.6.1, then put the ebay app into the folder. Then right click and Compress. Then rename the file with ".ipa" Then choose, "use ipa". Be sure that you do not have your older ebay 3.4.0.ipa in the mobile applications folder, drag this to the desktop. Also restart iTunes and the computer too. this is worked for me. the end file should be eBay 3.6.1.ipa

Yes, this is exactly what I've done in the past, which has worked, and this time, which has not worked. The OP mentioned that your file shows as 3.6.0 on the device...I wonder if maybe you had a copy of 3.6.0 lurking on your computer...iTunes will default to the last working file when syncing if there's any issue with a different file.

Initially, I thought the copy posted above worked for me, but then I discovered I had 3.4.0 floating around my iTunes folder...iTunes used that instead of the 3.6.1 file.

I have Ebay 3.6.1 I found it another of my machines that doesn't get used often, I have extracted the .ipa file and now I'm not sure what to do next? Do I just copy the .app file back to iTunes without all the preceding metadata files, or is there some thing more to it?

Hi Mcdj.:) I’m looking for the .ipa file for the eBay for iPad version 3.6.0 (or 3.6.1, if that is the latest version), before the eBay for iPad app was discontinued. Do you possibly have the .ipa file for the eBay for iPad app and if you do, would you please be able to send it to me.:) Thank you.:) I hope to hear from you or anyone else who can share the .ipa file with me.:)

i need too the app, can you please upload this again
It won't work. You need your own backup.
