Putting signs up is not a good idea because it tells possible thieves what system you have so they know how to bypass it. If you don't have one then it's that much easier for them to break in. It also tells them that you can afford a security system and that you probably have stuff worth stealing.

That's one opinion, but FBI surveys of past criminals say that the majority of criminals will pass by a house with signs of a security system, as they're just looking for an easy score. Sure "Bypassing" security systems sounds legit…if you've watched too many movies.

Thanks! I know there's the old debate about how 9mm doesn't have as much stopping power as a .45, but I'd rather have 19 rnds of 9mm than 8 rounds of .45 :D, and hollow point ammo works wonders.

Well yes. And the .45 doesn't have as much stopping power as an RPG. So what's the point? 9mm has plenty of power to stop anybody. And the versatility that the larger magazine offers is far more potent than a slightly bigger kick from a .45. Anyway, I always liked the 9mm way more. :)

Fully agreed! :cool::cool::cool:

This is my personnel opinion. They are a waste of money. The call goes to there dispatch center. Then if something is wrong they call the local pd. Nine times out of ten they put out a 459A (burglary alarm). They are not taken seriously by the pd. Trust me on this. Also I would check with your local pd and see if they charge for 459A calls.

They are a big waste of money if you ask me. I can't tell you how many times the person on the other end is freaking clueless. Also in my experience do not expect a good response time from either the alarm company or the pd.

I've got systems at home and work. I've only been broken into once at home, and they must have left as soon as the alarm sounded. My works never been broken into in 15 years, but others in the area haven't been so lucky. You used to get a discount on your insurance for having one, but now it seems it's considered necessary just to get insured.

Since I live in Australia I can't use the handgun security method. They've made it almost impossible to own a gun here legally, so now only criminals and cops have them.

Just wanted to let you know that ADT is offering some awesome promotions right now. The police car in the neighbor's driveway works real good for me. But we do have a security system.

my house came with an ADT security system installed, but I did not want to pay for service. So I paid someone to come out and reprogram the system, so it functions but does not call out. If someone breaks in, they will be trying to get stuff out of the house with an alarm blaring, calling all sorts of attention to themselves.

Most security systems are just repackaging other systems. Ademco seems to be very common (thats what mine is in fact). you can buy these separately without service if you want. You can install them yoruself or pay someone to do it for you. This does everything I want.

The only reason I would consider a monthly service is for fire alarm calling the fire deparment. But my system isn't set up for that anyway.

no, i don't have one. i was actually thinking of a sercurity system for the house the other day.

We have a basic system with door sensors, motion sensors, and glass break sensors that were installed by the builder. Honestly the main reason we like it is we hear the beep when a door opens when the system is unarmed. Other than that we have very little faith that if someone were to break in that the cops would get here in time to bust em. It just hopefully acts as a deterrent and/or scares them off when the alarm is blaring. If someone wants in, they will get in. It all about how fast they are and how much attention they want. I think the phrase is "it keeps the honest people honest."

Now if you want to lock up your valuables, forget the alarm, try one of these lol; http://www.libertysafe.com/safe_magnum.php

My brother in law has one of these - its insane how hard/impossible they are to break into, not to mention downright heavy (1565 lbs) and very difficult to move.

At my work the police are down their in minutes checking the premises. So not all Local police are useless when it comes to burglary alarms.

Yes. It is my black belt in martial arts. Several years of experience. The day a burglar breaks into my house will be the last day he ever attempts a burglary. reason being a broken arm, dislocated shoulders, broken legs, torn ligaments and a whole host of injuries. It does help to have wooden nunchucks and a bowstaff as well at those stick things that riot police use. like that T shaped thing. i forgot what it is called but i heard that when struck with sufficient force, bone will shatter.:D not to mention my fists. they are really hard bony fists soo.. its gonna tear his body apart. he is gonna have burglarophobia for the rest of his poor life.:D Yes. I'm one bad mofo.

We have one, and we use it extensively.

Its with a local company and the reasoning for us is that provides peace of mind.

First we have little ones and with the transition from cribs to beds, we didn't want them to wake up in the middle of the night and open the front door and wander out. Thankfully that never happened.

Secondly, we wanted it for security, both for our possessions but more importantly for my girls well being. All to often you read about an intruder getting into the house. We go into lockdown mode when we put my girlies to bed at night.

We have a box on the front of our house that says "Security" with some details of some security company, it also has a big flashing LED on it.

Seems to work as a deterrent pretty well, of course it doesn't actually do anything.

I have a P30 in my nightstand, hollow points as well, 115gr +p+ of course ;)
