So, I now have a 10.5 iPad Pro but lately have become very tempted to check out the 12.9. I’m considering buying a 1st gen for as cheap as possible just to be able to use it for an extended period to see how how it fits with me. After looking around, Gazelle.com seems to have a pretty good deal. A 32 GB in “Fair” condition costs $449. I am wondering if anyone else has bought a “Fair” condition iPad from gazelle and what was your experience and satisfaction. I think an added bonus is gazelle has a 30 return policy.

Also, please feel free to recommend any other sites to look at for a used 1st gen 12.9.

If you don't see details in the description on the for sale, then ask. Tbh, I found people tend to use mint condition on their for sales way more then they should so a fair condition may be something I'd be concerned with.

Talk with the seller and get the details.

My thought -- why waste your money on a used 1st gen if it's only intended as test mule of sorts. You instantly lose $100 or more in value the minute it ships to you. (I don't have any experience with Gazelle specifically, but generally, "fair" in the resale world is a nice word for below average condition -- meaning scratches and other defects, but still works).

Having gone from 12.9 is so big to 12.9 is awesome I can understand your trepidation 100%. Even after I bought my 12.9 I still kept going over to Apple to look at the 10.5 just to make sure I did the right thing. But after a week of using the 12.9 I was in total love.

My advice is use your $ to buy a new one (BB has WiFi models $100 off today -- Apple may price match) or open box @ BB. Put it though it's paces. You have 14 days to return if you decide it's not for you and you want to stick with the 10.5. If you keep it then it's better use of your money than the used 1st gen in questionable condition. If you don't then you "saved" $445.
