I normally donate my old devices to a family member who doesn’t have a Mac. 🙂
I have a family member that could make use of it. I am in the U.S.
It might be worth setting up for basic computing (email, web browsing, music, etc.), and then just "setting it aside as a spare". You will want to plug it into the charger perhaps once every week or two to keep the battery "up".
Reason:
You never know when YOU might NEED "a spare".
That moment may never come.
But... if it does... you will HAVE ONE, ready-to-go.
There are organizations such as Computers with Causes that may have an interest in any older computer, tablets, phones you may wish to donate.

I already have Windows systems and since I am not far into the Apple system (Samsung phone, Office 365, Spotify) I can get to most of my stuff on any platform.

This sounds like a good idea. Also looking into the local schools.
That is always good. I like to recycle old tech and other stuff in ways that it gets used and take son a second life instead of getting shipped overseas and turning onto an ecological nightmare.I love donating to causes like that. Just took a bunch of older bikes we had to Bikes Together as well. Nice to see organizations like this putting our old stuff to good use 🙂
