Flowrider gives you the correct link, the very first link in that thread lead you to the taobao.com store which sells USB type BT4.0 adaptor.

I have no personal experience with it, but there are several reviews for this stick that indicate it works with OS X, including El Capitain.

Hmm...these things are only about 12 euros. I might just have to buy one now to see if it actually works. Ideally I'd prefer to go with a new Bluetooth card from MVC, but he's out of stock.

The one thing to be aware of is that this will not work under the EFI. BT Keyboards or mice connected this way cannot be used for Option boot selection, CMD-R/CMD-S boots, or to unlock FileVault2.

Yes, thank you for pointing this out.

Yes, all USB Bluetooth Adapters (to my knowledge) require Continuity Activation Tool.

So would this adapter allow me to use the new keyboard and trackpad in my 2009 Mac Pro?

Reading through the Continuity Activation Tool README, it appears that under El Capitan, CAT doesn't support USB Dongles yet, so perhaps keep that in mind.

Please keep us informed. I actually have that particular USB Bluetooth dongle, but couldn't figure out a reliable way to keep it working upon cold starts. (I used the Bluetooth Explorer app to make it the default adapter but it didn't stick.) i'm thinking I need to disable the internal bluetooth card first before installing the dongle. It was more about testing the continuity last year and trying to prevent the Magic Mouse battery drain.

I've still got the old Bluetooth Trackpad and Keyboard, but chances are that I'll order the new Trackpad at some point next week too.

This is not quite correct. We were going to offer one that doesn't. I still have a box with parts for 50 or so of them. Just don't have the time to do the soldering. With a cMP you are better off to get the 94360CD upgrade kit. The 1,1/2,1 and 3,1 have it easy.

In any case, there was a supplier in China who had the "real deal", it just has to have an Apple BT card inside the dongle. lowrider has one of these. I've got a couple laying around but will probably never make the rest. Look for the Chinese guy, they exist.
