I wanted to do a spec based comparison between the hi res MBP 15 glossy and matte displays, i found the specs for the matte display but could not find the specs of the glossy one. So does anyone out here know or have the specs. Or could you check the model no. of the display used and the company that manufactures it?

    I believe it's a Samsung panel.

I'm basing my comment on what people found in the thread I linked to, Apple can obviously change supplier at the drop of a hat ;)

To give an example, the Dell U2711 and the Apple Cinema Display and 27" iMac all use the same 27" LG panel. The Dell has an anti-glare coating on the front (which some people managed to remove and make into a glossy display), the ACD and iMac have a glossy glass front instead, but it's still the same panel (I went with the Dell - more input choices and anti-glare).

The other difference is the back-lighting - Apple use LED back lights.

tl;dr you can use the same panel in different displays with different characteristics.
