Just curious if anyone has done this? Or if it can be done?

I don't think it's possible. HDCP will preclude using the HDMI (or component?) output of the U-verse box and I'm not sure what's available, if anything, for connecting s-video or composite to the ADC's mini displayport.

http://www.atlona.com/ATLONA-HDMI-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-TO-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-SCALER-AND-SWITCHER.html

I found this online. The price is outrageous, and I am not sure if it will even work for what I am trying to do? I am not wanting to connect my MBP while I am watching TV. I just want to be able to use the ACD as a TV. I like to have the TV on in the background while I am sitting on my couch with my laptop.

I don't understand why Apple wouldn't just have an HDMI port on the back of the ACD? It is unnecessary for me to have two "tvs" in my little living room/work space. I understand this is supposed to be a "display" to hook up for your laptop/macmini but why not just toss a HDMI port on there and allow people to use it as a TV as well? Shoot you can't even hook up an ATV without an adapter.

I figured that you wanted to use the ACD as a TV but so long as you try to use the HDMI-out of the U-verse box, and so long as you try to connect it to HDCP-compliant equipment you're screwed. So in this case it wouldn't matter if the ACD had an HDMI-in or not.

And you're not the first person to want to do this or just be able to record off the HDMI port of the U-verse box.

I admit your question sort of straddles the fence between the Mac and U-verse. But FYI, just in case you aren't aware of it there are three U-verse specific related forums I sometimes read:

Thanks for the links to the uverse forums. I have been looking for some good ones.

I'm not trying to record or transfer anything from my uverse. Just want to be able to plug my HDMI in from the uverse to the ACD (like you would a normal TV). I guess I just don't see why the ACD doesn't have different inputs (like on a TV). Would just make more sense to have two inputs (HDMI, Monitor). Just would seem a little more appealing to the general public. People like me who live in small places would like to use it as a TV as well as a display monitor.

If anyone has figured out how to do this without using the MBP attached to the ACD please let me know.
