Nothing's "wrong" but it may need to be tweaked a bit.

It's like you need to unlock it, and then be deliberate about bringing it up to your ear. It seems to enable either the accelerometer or the gyroscope constantly while unlocked, and only enables the proximity sensor after you've moved the phone in a way that enables it.

So, practice with it in one of your hands, at the home screen, and then just move it up to your face, wait for the beep, and talk. When you pull it away that will end the conversation.

What the heck are you all talking about? Flicking phones?

It takes me weeks to guess what Apple's included in each release of iOS. Maybe an freaking on-line manual with all the little details? I finally found a few weeks ago why "nothing to undo / cancel" kept popping up on my screen.

Yeah, you'd think they'd include some sort of manual.

Or even that they would include some sort of manual in the iPhone's bookmarks menu.

I can only get mine to work maybe half the time. Like somebody said earlier, the phone definitely does NOT need to be unlocked. It just has to be lit up on the lock screen.

I kind of figured Siri was activated by the light sensor but I guess not? I've tried putting my finger over the sensor while the screen is on and it doesn't activate it so I guess the gyroscope is involved somehow. That's kind of silly as it certainly renders wildly inconsistent results. I can't fathom why it wouldn't be totally based off the light sensor.

Furthermore, Siri randomly decided tonight to stop reading text messages. She will tell me I have a new text from so and so, then it just goes silent for a few seconds, then tells me I can reply/delete.

I wasn't able to get this to work at all except once or twice for a while, but I've just been trying just now and I think I have the technique down.

Hold the phone at a reasonable length from your face for a second or two. Basically, the position you'd normally hold it if you're looking up information while standing. The screen needs to be on, but the phone doesn't need to be unlocked unless you've ticked that option in Settings. Now bring it to your ear about medium speed, no "flick," but approximately natural speed, not too quickly, not too slowly. Siri triggers for me each time when I do it like this. It never works if I try to bring the phone up from my side or any other position.

But yeah, I do hope a software update makes her less finicky.

I had this problem today - also Siri wouldn't activate via the home button either. Tried again a few minutes later and all was good!

There definitely has to be a sensitivity slider.

I'd crank it all the way up in order to make this bitch talk.
