We have an Apple TV HD with the older style remote that has a white ring around the MENU button.

Everything's working fine except the YouTube app. I can open the app, select my profile, but I can't move around the app with the touch pad. I tried with my iPhone's remote app and I have the same problem.

Having the same issue. I deleted and reinstalled YouTube. Updated to latest OS.
Also tried the remote app on phone and that also had the same issue with the app so it’s not a remote issue.

came here to say yes, also having this issue. tried resetting the remote, using the mobile app. every other app is fine, just not YouTube.

Having this issue today as well. Ran software update, restarted the app several times, restarted the Apple TV. Remote app on both iPhone and iPad: same result.

Yes, just noticed this after updating to tvOS 26.5 on an Apple TV4K with the new style remote. Only YouTube seems to be affected. Hopefully the app will be updated soon to correct this.

Chatting with a support agent now, doing my best to convince her to create a ticket, but that isn't going anywhere. She's clearly just following the usual basic script of, "try this, try that". Frustrating.

Same here.... even before updating to tvOS 26.5. I thought the YouTube app was updated for tvOS 26.5, so I updated. However, after updating to 26.5, I'm still unable to navigate my way around the YouTube app. Good thing I still have the old Apple TV remote (for Apple TV 3), which is what I use now to navigate around the YouTube app.

Same issue - every other app works fine. I’m still on 26.4 TVOS. YouTube messed this up - hopefully not intentionally!

I can still scroll on YouTube using the iPhone Apple TV remote app.

Same here. Just started working correctly. Switched from one Apple TV profile to another and updated the upstairs newer Apple TV device, came back and it started working again. Dunno, gave the app a 1 star rating though.

YouTube is aware of the issue - I messaged on X and they redirected to their message board which had this:

i didn’t even have to reinstall. i force quit youtube and relaunched it. works now (it didn’t work when i force quit earlier tonight). they must have deployed a fix

Mine's working now!

A few weeks ago, they had changed up how the left side selection was. I think Subscriptions was further on the top and that's pretty much all I use. I wish they had kept that interface.

The YouTube team made a deliberate functional decision, new remotes have swipe and d-pad, mine only has swipe. Very annoying.

I couldn't touch swipe in YouTube yesterday, after updating to tvOS 26.5, but I can now, after force quitting and restarting the YT app. Don't know if YouTube has updated anything, though.

I am having the same problem with an Apple TV 4K. I can't swipe anything, either with the remote or with the remote app on my iPhone. Swiping works everywhere else, just not in YouTube. this started after the update to 26.5 final.

I hear your frustration loud and clear. It’s incredibly annoying when an update makes a device you’ve relied on feel obsolete overnight, especially when you're a paying customer.

There are two workarounds that might help you get back to your videos without the headache:

  • The "Tap" Method: Many users with older touch-surface remotes have found that tapping (not clicking) the four outer edges of the touch pad still allows for navigation even when the swipe gesture fails.
  • Virtual Remote Settings: On your phone’s Apple TV remote app, you can sometimes toggle between a "Directional Pad" and "Swipe" mode in your phone's Accessibility settings under "Apple TV Remote," which might restore control.
I’m passing this feedback along to the team—it’s important that we maintain accessibility for all remote types. Let me know if you have other questions!”

It’s a feature, not a bug. I think they forgot about older remotes not having a d-pad
