Even though it's allegedly for a 2012 Air, I tried ananadtech's profile on my 2011 13" LG. Think it's a keeper.

Been informed that I can get the 2K 0% interest for one year deal from Barclay's. Would have been tempting...

...but the lack of r optimized pages, continued complaints about lagginess in Lion and screen burns/ghosting, along with the promise of a possible 13" retina is helping me hold the mojo at bay. For now.

Also read over Anandtech's detailed analysis of the rMBP about how the graphics and CPU may not be just quite ready for the new display. My new mantra is his statement that if you already have a sandy bridge machine, you'd be well served to wait for haswell or broadwell before upgrading.

I'll be better off waiting for haswell or broadwell....
I'll be better off....

But the computer works great! It's the nitpickers that have problems with it. They'll find problems with ANYTHING !!!!

The screen is absolutely AWESOME !!! I thought about selling it but I just can't get myself to part with this screen.

I don't really see how. The performance gains on Haswell are predicted to be minimal; even Intel says that the majority of their focus on Haswell is power-saving.

Broadwell could be a big performance gainer, but that's only if Intel immediately adds their MCM chipset (because 14nm is necessary), but I could just as easily see them waiting until the next tock (Skylake) before doing something that drastic. But this is all speculation, anyways.

All of the MBPR's issues seem to be software-based, depending on the resizing pixel algorithms. I have a feeling that once those are sorted out, you'll see the lag disappear regardless of hardware. There's really not any reason that the hardware in the current MBPR shouldn't be able to support the graphics that it presents.

I am enjoying the heck out of this Anandtech LG profile. Maybe the way out of my conundrum is to read about the rMBP less and enjoy the screen on my MBA more.

Hi my name is David and I'm a retinaholic. . . .
I have been drooling over the rMBP since it came out. I have an 11" ultimate with a replaced 480gig SDD from otherworld computing. I absolutely LOVE my 11" MBA. I had a 13" prior. Well, a week went by and I resisted. I would call stores to see if they got any. Still no one had them. Finally, luck would have it....SCORE! Apple store in Paramus had them. I speed right over and snag one. After playing with it for 14 days, I said this is ridiculous. It's just too big. I need the 13". Do I get a new air cause it has more RAM and faster? I return the rMBP. Phew! That was close. That was 10 days ago. Now I'm back to the 11" MBA for the last 9 days. I can't stand the screen. I was in Charlotte visiting and went to the local Best Buy....They have the rMBP in stock! Here I go again. What do I do? Then I say to myself, go to Delaware and save the tax! So on my way back to Jersey, I call every Best Buy and Apple Store in DE and no rMBP. Maybe it's a sign. Remember, I'm a retinaholic! I figured one last shot...I called my local BB and guess what! They have it! I couldn't stay away. I had to have that screen and speed. I must say the 8gig of ram is really speedy. Everything looks so much better. I just can't go back. So here is my plan....I keep this 15" rMBP till the 13" comes out and sell this one. I just can't live without retina. I'm David and I'm a retinaholic.

LOL So funny :)))))

Hi, David!

I came close to relapsing myself yesterday. Local blackshirts (business reps, not italian fascists) at my apple store have a practice of raiding the trucks and holding onto one or two high value options in the back.

Sure enough, they had a couple 2.3's. Was on my way to get one, when the chief blackshirt called back to tell me they wouldn't price match BB, since none of my local stores currently have ANY of them in stock, and understood if I called a 'king's x' on buying it: "It's not like we'll have any problem selling it." Whew! Pulled a quick u-turn and started driving away from the mall, thank God.

Said my mantra ('11 MBA is paid for, reprofiled screen is good enough, teenaged daughter is expecting a car, 13" version is coming out soon, don't buy a revision a, see if ML improves screen lag, better models come to those who wait) and was able to get through it by the grace of God.

If they came out with a Air with just a decent quality IPS screen for not that much more, I'd probably bite, God help me. Or a 13" pro with the same specs as the rMBP? Sign me up.

I don't have to buy a retina Macbook Pro today. Just for today. Thanks.

Lately I've been having to fight off Zenbook mojo. Thankfully it only runs Windows, so it isn't too hard to fight off. But the hardware in that thing is awfully tempting...

Yeah, I looked that over, too. And the sony viao se...available with a gorgeous, though non retina, IPS screen and sandy bridge i5 for only $950 on newegg.

But I'm glad the reviews are starting to call apple out on ultrabooks starting to have better IPS screens. Hopefully, we'll see some improvement on that front.

I recommend you go see those screens in person and use them in different lighting conditions before you make comments like 'gorgeous and better' when comparing to MacBook Air screens.

Comparing and using in real life tells the truth.

Fair enough. I'm only going by what the reviewers are telling us...the same ones who review the macbook airs.

And if I can get my hands on a sony ips screen, I'd gladly compare it to my Air.

But there's no way I'm hauling my Air to the Apple store and setting it up next to a retina MBP....there's objective, and then there's foolhardy.

I am comfortably sitting on the retina sideline. I have a 2010 15" MBP and a gorgeous new 2012 11" MBA. I am going to let the retina tech bake for a year or more before diving in. I just know they will figure out a way to make it 33% more awesome in another year.

I was playing with a rMBP again at the Apple store, today. No question, the retina screen resolution is sharper and more clear. Icons look fantastic, and print clarity is noticeably improved...reading is definitely a bit easier on the eyes. On the other hand, I viewed some 1080HD youtube videos, and while the quality may be a little better it's not night-and-day better (of course, I understand the actual video quality is a determining factor). Surrounding webpage content is not improved, either.

Until more websites are retina friendly, thus completing the retina effect, the rMBP will remain a bit ahead of its time.

I considered the new rMBP, but went with a 13" MBA instead.

I remembered the golden rule, thou shalt not buy rev A.

Those waiting for a retina 13" remember that the 13" won't have near the performance of the 15". The 13" is the entry Pro. I doubt the 13" will have a retina anytime soon.

Fall 13" retina is dreaming, not wishful thinking.

I'm trying to listen to my mature 'shredded wheat' side of my personality, and hold fast with my current setup. But the 'frosting' side isn't giving up the fight easily.

How are yall getting your inner child to shut the hell up?

Think of the other things you'll be able to do with the money you'll save. Calculate how many months earlier you'll be able to retire if you invest it instead.

Hi my name is David and I must say the 8gig of ram is really speedy. .

I must write that no that RAM is not "speedy ".

If you could take out 6GB of RAM and you just used a web browser you would not see any difference in speed. RAM is purely pass or fail, you have enough or you don't. RAM never speeds anything up, it only stops things from grinding to a halt.

A lot of people on this forum have collectively wasted a lot of money because they wrongly thought that more RAM would mean more speed.

The CPU and the GPU speed things up.

Biggest thing is:

Do you need a rMBP?
Can you justify the expense of a rMBP?

IMO, the rMBP is really overpriced and unless you are doing some hardcore video editing, it is not needed.

The MBA is an Apple laptop that is actually competitively priced IMO.

You can try to tell yourself that you don't "need" a retina display. In a few years, every computer will have the equivalent and you will wonder why you put up without it for so long.

I can't believe people are still buying the iPad 2. I was considering it, then I looked at it side-by-side with the new iPad. Web page text on the iPad 2 look like… well, like how they look on my 2012 Air if I hold the screen 10 inches away. It looks terrible compared to the retina display. If you have never used the retina display, you might not notice the difference. Just as with our current Pros/Airs, we think its "fine".

Long story short, the retina displays look far better than you would imagine. I'll be buying the 13" retina MacBook the instant it is available and selling my 2012 Air. You should too.

I love how that website defaults to 6.5% interest. The last time I saw savings interest that high is when I was in elementary school.

I assume you were being facetious here. I'd be surprised if you are able to retire even a single week earlier due to the difference in price between the Air and the retina Pro. Hell, the 13" retina will probably only have a $300 difference in price from the $1500 Air.

A quick plea...

Would any of you photoshop wizards mind sending me a desktop picture for my 13" Air? Should be simple work, but I'd like it to feature a 13" air with the legend, "My Macbook Air is good enough....Goddamn it!"
