I was in Halifax for a couple of weeks this summer for work.
Nice place. Small. I flew in on a Sunday evening.. kind of a mistake. Downtown is dead! I walked along the harbour, it was peaceful and pretty, but it would probably have been more fun if all those fish-and-chip wagons were actually open for business.
I did enjoy a few meals at John's Lunch in Dartmouth. Great little greasy-spoon place with huge servings of delicious fried fish and clams and whatnot.
Freeway speeds of 80 km/h (50 mph) threw me off a bit, but I like how everyone seems so relaxed and not in a hurry. Lots of space between cars, no tailgating.
And they seem to treat pedestrians like royalty. If it even looks like you're thinking of crossing the road, they'll stop for you. Heck, if you're 30 seconds away from the intersection, they'll stop for you, and wait! As a pedestrian I was blown away by this. As a driver, it took me a little by surprise but I caught on pretty quick after the first dirty look I got!
