And by that I mean no malfunctioning or mushy keys, and this after more than a year of use?

I count myself as one of the lucky ones that hasn't had a problem with it at all (it's been about a year and 7 months now). But... I use one of the silicone keyboard covers. They look so ugly though, and they warped over time. I was thinking of maybe trying to go without it and being extra careful, but I wanted to hear your guys' experiences...

I hate the silicon covers and have never used them. No problems. Remember, most people didn't/don't have problems with their keyboards. The number was only a small percentage--larger than expected and not normal, but small.

I’ve had no problems with my work MacBook Pro for two years and the recent used 12 inch MacBook I purchased. I do make more typing errors with butterfly and than scissors, especially during night time or on the couch. But I don’t have the hatred and I haven’t had the sticky key issues of many others

I own a 2017 12” MacBook. Prior to it, I owned a 2016” 12” MacBook. Both with butterfly keyboards (although I believe the 2017 MacBook is an “improved generation” butterfly keyboard. I’ve never had a single issue with the keyboards. I’ve always used super thin TPU keyboard covers (less than .13mm in thickness) on them just for peace of mind. In addition, every two weeks or so, I remove the cover and use the soft dusting brush attachment on my Dyson handheld vacuum and lightly go over the keyboard on the low setting just to get out any debris that might have gotten under the keyboard cover. I have two pugs that shed like crazy and their hair gets everywhere 😩.

Did you ever have a problem with the keyboard cover warping due to the heat?

I don’t use a cover because I don’t prefer the feel but I have a butterfly keyboard and it works fine. No bad keys and I love the way it feels

2018 work mbp without a single issue. Buddy has the original 2016 mbp that is his personal machine and gets about 4 hours a usage a day and no issues yet.

Yep mine is the 13 2016 and it’s given me no problems so far (even though I got it used and it’s got bad dents so I wish a key would break so Apple would replace the top case!)

Never. I’ve even conducted temperature tests with the cover on and off as that was a concern of mine. Zero difference in terms of temperature/heat. My only remaining concerns were excess pressure on the hinges of the Macbook and/or possible damage to the display when closed (I leave the keyboard cover on). By using a super thin TPU cover vs a thicker silicone one, I’ve found neither of these to be issues. MacBook closes completely and my display is in perfect condition.

I feel like the new magic keyboard is a great combination between the sturdiness of the butterfly but the key travel of the old scissor switches. Definitely my preference.

I prefer the feel without the cover but it’s worth it to me for the potential protection it offers. One thing I do like about using it with the cover is the noticeable reduction in the typing noise as I tend to hit the keys pretty hard.

I bought my Macbook 12" on May 15, 2015 so I'm sitting at 5 years of use.

Not a single problem. And I type just as well on this keyboard as I have on any other notebook keyboard the last 25 years.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I spent hours writing code for my degree on the 12“ MacBook and never had an issue with the keyboard.

Man, 12” notebooks just seem perfect for college. I still have, use, and treasure the 12” PowerBook that saw me through my computer science degree :D

I didn't have problems with my 2017 until recently. I suspect it's because now in the era of WFH and eating pretty much all the time, my MacBook's become a bib.

Put a cover on it or don't eat toast over it. 👍

I've had a 2015, 2016 and 2017 12" MacBooks with butterfly keyboards. Each was bought used on Ebay. I've never had a problem with any of them. The '15 I gave to my daughter and it's still going strong. The '16 I did an Apple trade in. The '17 I sold on Market Place. Although they all worked just fine, I wish however that Apple would again make a 12" with the 'magic' keyboard, it is def. preferable.

2017 13-inch macbook pro touch bar user here, no issue with the keyboard at all. but my display is having problem.

I love the feel of the butterfly keyboard, but I started developing the double typing problem on multiple keys on my 2018 15” MBP after a few months. It’s very sporadic to where sometimes it never happens, and then other times it won’t stop. Very annoying. Luckily, an app called Unshaky helps make it less of a problem.

all these keyboards are different. I use the 2017 rMB, 2019 MBP 16 and the Apple Magic keyboard with numerical pad (iMac Pro version). they all feel a bit different but enjoyable once you get in your groove. sometimes I feel the new ones are great but then I go use the rMB and I like the snappy short travel. then I go back to the external magic one and feel its a bit better than the MBP one. its all kind of mental I guess. They all have a snap feedback to them but I feel they are all better than the squishy pre 2016 keyboards. but then again if I was to go back and use the old squishy MB for a couple hours, id probably enjoy that too. Id say I didn't like the 2015 rMB keyboard as it was way too flat without enough feedback but then when I asked Apple to replace it in 2017, they put in a slightly better keyboard in with some more feedback. I recently used an old mechanical keyboard and thought it was insane to type on that in the past but we all did it for years without complaints so it comes down to being spoiled and exposed to too many options.
