I was wondering whether anyone uses their iPhone to watch movies (purchased movies from iTunes or ripped DVDs or Blu-rays) despite the smaller screen size than the iPad?

Nope, that's why I have a rMini. The screen is too small for my liking.

I have seen some folks on the subway watching movies on their phones (iPhones and android) but its not my cup of tea.

I have in the past on occasion
Once, I was stuck getting an oil change, brakes, etc. done at the shop
Had a movie with me and it worked out well :)

No I don't. I'll only watch a movie on my iPad if I'm away on business. But never the iPhone because it's just too small for that.

All the time, not just iTunes movies but also Youtube and Netflix. The screen is fantastic and big enough. I also use iPad and MacBook to watch movies.

Laying in bed, I do all the time. I'm able to hold/ prop it close enough so the size isn't an issue and it doesn't light up the room as an iPad would.

Maybe a few YouTube clips here and there, never a full movie. I usually watch them on the iPad Mini if I'm away from home.

I've watched a couple of movies on my iPhone. I don't do it very often because of the small screen. I'd rather watch it on something larger.

Yes, OP. YouTube and HBO Go when I'm too lazy to fire up my iPad, despite that it is usually right at my bedside. Plus, movies on HBO Go seem to fill up the screen better than on the iPad.

All the time
I have an iPad mini but I don't like carrying it around and I have my phone all the time so why not?

Obviously if you have an iPad that would be your go-to device. Just like if you were sitting in front of a TV, you'd no doubt set the iPad aside. But the only reason not to use an iPhone for watching movies is if you personally don't care to. If you hold it at half the distance as an rMini, it's going to appear to be the same size.

I have eyetv, so sometimes watch the news or sport update, not a whole movie or show though. iPad/Macbook for that.

Of course I would if my iPad was not an option. But I only watch things I've already seen on wither device. If there is something new I will watch on the HD set or in the theater.

That's how Apple gets us to buy iPads, the teeny tiny phone is a joke for anything but texting & calls. A smartphone only in name.

I do quite often when my iPad isn't on hand. I've watched entire seasons of shows on my iPhone in airports. The same when on a short trip laying in bed. I even have an iPhone 4S with a 3.5 screen (gasp!!).

AppleTV > iPad > iPhone. Is my Apple media watching order. :)

Yes. I prefer my iPad but if I can't use my iPad. Then I'll watch a movie on my iPhone. I'd rather watch a movie on a small screen than no screen at all. :D

I used to travel a lot and the portability of the iPhone is still best. Yes I always use it to watch videos, movies, etc.
Nowadays with an AppleTV and AirPlay the only thing you will regret is having to plug it in to re-charge the battery.

We've come a long ways!
I remember watching season one of LOST on my iPod Video before the iTouch was released!
I'd do on so my train ride home from San Diego to Encinitas. It is now weird to think of looking at a tiny little screen like that and not being distracted while doing so.

The original iPad was a giant upgrade back in the day!

Naaaaaw the iPhone screen is way to small to enjoy a movie. I guess id do it if I was one of those unfortunate people who have to do a great deal of travelling via public transport back and forth to work each day. Having to travel a lot really sucks so its a good way to avoid eye contact with the crazies I guess.
