I've never understood why one would watch a movie on His/Her iPhone.
There's HDTV's, laptops, and iPads with super high resolutions for this.

Several reasons:
-2007, 2008 you only had an iPhone
-You cannot afford anything with a bigger screen
-Portability when traveling
-Security reasons, if you are in countries/locations where any iDevice is a target for theft, mugging, etc. The iPhone can easily be stored in one pocket and you always carry it with you. Bigger iDevices will be a potential exposure to be a target, or leaving them in the dorm/hotel to not "exposing" them might be even worse: surely it will be stolen.
-Portable entertainment to catch on any TV series/show/sport event you want to watch while away from home
-For international travelers you can use VPN and connect to you home services and watch whatever you want to watch
I agree that for certain movies it will always be better to watch them in a larger screen: Movie Theater will be a preference over anything else.
If you can travel with an Apple TV and an iPhone you can connect it to a large screen HD TV and this still will be better than carrying an iPad while traveling.
People travel for business reasons, sometimes to remote places where the only entertainment you can get is whatever you have stored in your iPhone. And instead of lugging an iPad we prefer to carry a battery to keep the iPhone powered.

I just started to watch movies on my bus/train commute to work. Just finished "Only God Forgives" and working on "Pierrot le Fou" and it isn't too bad on my iPhone 3GS so far.

I still prefer an iPad but so far the iPhone is a lot easier to carry around when I swing around from commuting to transfer from train to bus to work.

Although I'm not watching a movie I'm on a train right now standing room only. There is a reason.

I do it once in a while when I'm out and some time to kill.

I find that I get immersed in the story and forget about the small screen.

Before the iPad, I might have watched a movie/TV here or there, but not after purchasing the first iPad. I don't even like texting on my iPhone anymore.

Ive watched movies, and netflix and youtube videos also on my iPhone. Not as a rule, but I was/am a truck driver. However Ive never been long haul, just local, so Ive always had a day cab truck. Not enough room to pack everything and the kitchen sink in a day cab Peterbilt. (also had to bring my food, work gear, etc)... So if I had a break down, which happened a couple of times, even with a brand new truck, id just kick my feet across both seats and watch something on my phone while waiting for someone to come fix my truck. (company owned, I didn't have to, and wasn't *supposed* to repair anything myself, as a driver.)

I haven't watched movies on it, but I do watch TV on it. The screen may be small, but it is crystal clear, better than my TVs. Also I don't have a TV in my kitchen. We use an iPad in there for a TV, but it is getting used more and more by the kids for school work, so I either use my phone for a TV at times or go without.

Wow! [Sir Jony] Ive has watched movies on your iPhone? What a privilege!

I do. I need glasses to see a TV but not for an iPhone (near sighted). Ignoring that I don't watch on a TV unless someone is watching with me which doesn't happen very often.

Folks don't realize that everything you watch has an apparent size which is the size of the screen and the distance from you. Unless you sit with your nose pressed against a 53" TV, :) you can bring the iPhone closer to your eyes until the screens are perceived to be the same size. An iPad won't need to be as close as an iPhone.

Naaaaaw the iPhone screen is way to small to enjoy a movie. I guess id do it if I was one of those unfortunate people who have to do a great deal of travelling via public transport back and forth to work each day. Having to travel a lot really sucks so its a good way to avoid eye contact with the crazies I guess.

To each his own man. One of the reasons I wanted to move to a big city was so that I could take public transport and not have to deal with driving in the gridlock

Anyone here use their iPhones to watch movies?

True but...

I have a 55" HDTV I sit about 12' from in my living room. Looks great compared to the 46" I replaced for it.

Anyway if I put my phone so it's the same relative size away from my face it's probably 4-6" or so away. My eyes can just barely focus on it. It would give me a headache so it's unusable.

Do the same thing with my iPad and it's beyond arms reach. So using my iPad to watch a movie it's relatively bigger then my 55" HDTV.

Comparing the iPad to my iPhone, the iPad at a comfortable distant requires the iPhone to be touching my nose.

I don't know the true intention of this thread but pocketability, one hand use, etc aside a larger iPhone would provide a better video viewing experience.

Lol after doing these "test" and looking like a nut in my living room I really appreciate the iPads size. Any bigger would be useless (to me) unless my arms got longer. :)

So you're standing, and watching a movie on the train... on your iPhone?

The screen is too SMALL, you can't possibly enjoy a cinematic experience to the fullest on such a little device. I just ruins a film for me, I don't understand how people do that I am sorry. A series I could understand, but a movie? no.

I may start to catch TV shows on the iPhone. Thinking about watching Game of Thrones and Girls on it.
