I’m curious how iPadOS 16 runs on the 6th generation iPad for people.

No issues here - some apps are a bit slow to load (e.g. the App Store) but once loaded there are no issues (I use mine for web/email/YouTube and lightweight apps)

Depending on the iOS version you’re on, it will be both significantly slower and with far worse battery life.

For basic usage, it will probably be fine performance-wise, barring iPadOS 16-induced RAM issues (battery life, probably not), but if the usage is basic, you probably could do without the update. It’s a lose-lose situation, in my honest opinion.

I'm also curious for more opinions. Going from 13 to 15 was definitely a huge downgrade, but I was forced to by apps I needed. Sigh.

Does 16 still have the horrible unremovable three dots at the top?

That’s Apple’s new UI for multitasking on iPadOS so yes. I do wish you can hide/disable it, though.

Earlier versions of iOS allowed disabling split view/slide over. That’s something I’ve always done on my parents’ iPads. They get confused/panic when slide over windows suddenly pop up.

My is a 2017 5th gen up to date and running great.
some videos do "squiggles" when tapped with a thumb, but that can be the website.

OH
I streamed the Arsenal-Citeh cup match last week on the iPad, to an TV with 2 HomePod minis (blue) for sound
without a hitch or stoppage in play, which was incredible!

The App Store issue sadly is not related to the iPad 6th generation. I observed similar issues on my iPad Pro (both 2018 and 2022). So it is an Apple/iPadOS 16 issue.

I have it installed on my 6th generation iPad but these days I do not use the iPad that much because the 2 GB RAM are not enough for my usage and leads to a lot of frustration. So I cannot share very meaningful feedback on how it performs.

Nope. Those little 3 dots are there for life....

Unfortunately, iPads with 2GB of RAM have gotten the short end of the stick ever since iPadOS 13. Which is a shame, because we have in that category the best iterations of Apple’s original design intention with the iPad: all 9.7-inch iPads since the Air 2 support it.

I can confirm: I have my 9.7-inch iPad Pro on iOS 12 and performance-wise, it is great.

My Son's 6th Gen Base iPad 128gb is running fine on iPadOS, I asked him and so far he has not run into any issues.

With my 6th gen, Brave browser has some kind of issue where it usually hangs when I attempt a search in the browser bar. Maybe I need to re-install Brave and re-assess that.

But I have been noticing that overall performance is getting a little chunky/stuttery on my 128GB iPad 6.

I have an iPad 9th, and haven't update yet (it is still on iPadOS 15). Your comments, I confess, give me courage to update it!

That still currently exists, right? It is so annoying. I've read iPadOS 17 will return the option to disable it, is that right?
