Personally, I have never like or done well with the keyboard setup with the iPad 12.9 Pro. Now that the iPad M2 Air is out, i am considering just keeping the M2 Air, selling the 12.9 iPad and keeping at home/desk the 14" or 16" pro at home. I know so many scenarios - :)

I have a 12.9 pro & an ipad mini. I couldn't imagine getting rid of either to be honest. They both serve a purpose in my routine. But since you own two laptops now, I suppose you could get by without the ipad pro. If you aren't big on media consumption on the go, you'd probably be fine without it.
thanks - yeah one ipad is likely fine for me, much rather have two laptops

You already having iPad Air with M2 chip…? Someone having connection with Apple…

As for having 2 laptops, why?? If you planing to keep the 14”/16” MBP on your desk all the time, get the Mac mini/studio instead and MBA as your portable device. And if you really need/want iPad as well, Mini or Air would be nice addition.

yeah, i am mobile at times. the Air is so think and light (like an ipad) i just don't see why I would have an iPad lol - A mini yes, therefore, I think two computers would be better (one for home, one for travel etc...)

Sounds like swapping out the 12.9 for an iPad Air (or 11" iPad Pro if you value some of those features) may be a good option, providing you with a smaller device. And of course you could go iPad mini if you want something smaller yet.

I replaced a 12.9 with an 11, using it in conjunction with an M1 Air. That worked well for me, and I think right around 11" is the sweet spot for iPads.

Now that the iPad M2 Air is out
I am confused, are you talking about the iPad Air or the MacBook Air? M2 is not there yet for any tablet.

To answer to your question, I have a 16 inch MacBook Pro and a 12.9 inch iPad Pro, and I love the complementarity of the two devices. I would not go back to the iPad Air lineup anytime soon, because I like Promotion and FaceID. But I could see myself eventually changing it for a 11 inch iPad Pro (only if Apple gives the same screen as the larger one, the mini-LED screen is stunning). I had an 11 inch iPad Pro before, and I liked the form factor, as the 12.9 inch iPad Pro can be a bit cumbersome sometimes. I like the larger one for note taking and reading, so most of the times, its size is a pro and not a con

iPad is nice addition for laptop, but cant replace it…

Dont see the point of having two laptops, special when one will sit always on the desk… better having Mac Mini or Studio and MBA as your portable device instead. But whatever rocks your boat.

I just checked out the M2 Air at the Apple Store — it is small and comparable to the iPad Pro in size, but it is way too heavy, and definitely not the weight I expected for a Macbook Air.

As I sit here eating lunch while holding my 12.9” M1 iPad Pro in one hand, chipping away at a work project, and catching up on email and MacRumors, there’s no way an MBA could replace the iPad Pro utility for me.

Instead, a 15” M2 MB Air is more likely to replace my ‘bit too heavy and thick’ 16” M1 MB Pro Max. Where’s Jony Ive when we really need him!?

wow intersting.. I just find the M2 air soooo light, you can take it anywhere..

I am thinking about selling my M1 iPad Pro 12.9 and M1 MacBook Air, and buying a 14" MacBook Pro. For years I lived by my iPad Pro because I was using Notability all the time. Now days, I'm in clinic and only use my MacBook Air for EHR/EMR and browsing/studying/email/MS Word. I want the 14" Pro for the miniLED display, extra ports, and multi-external monitor support for home usage.

yes same boat here, work in clinic too... that's why I think 14 pro due to mini LED and it makes a huge difference and the base m2 air (will sell my ipad 12.9 which i hardly use). Now of course reading today the 14 M2 will be out in the fall likely.. haha always somthin!

Sounds like you won’t need the 12.9 iPad Pro (and haven’t needed it for a while). I’d sell it, and if I was missing it - would pick up an 11inch IPP or an Air as someone above suggested. From what you’ve described, I don’t think you will though.

And yes, if it makes you happy and you’ll use them - keep both the Pro and the MBA. When that stops working for you, you can sell/upgrade one of them too 😉

I have a 16” M1 Max MBP and the M1 12.9 iPad Pro and not a chance I am trading it in for the M2 MBA.

I was thinking of buying a $999 base M2 MBA as a throw it in your bag travel device, but Apple jacked up the price and managed to screw it up at the same time. So I am no longer interested.

Ah nice! what do you do? And yeah, My iPad Pro 12.9 is used exclusively for movies. I feel like I could go down to one device, more powerful and as portable as the MBA or iPP, with the display of the iPP, better speakers than both.

I used to have a desktop + laptop + iPad Pro but now I sold the desktop and iPad Pro and upgraded the laptop to a 14" M1 Pro MBP. I found that the 14" was portable enough to replace my iPad Pro and the M1 Pro is no difference performance-wise than any desktop I could buy (with the exception of the M1 Ultra, which is way overkill for my needs.)

IMO the M1 MacBooks have completely killed the appeal of the iPad Pro for me.

Nope, because my iPad is a vanilla one. However the MBPs (hell just the M1 Macbook Air in general) is what completely killed the iPad for me. I can't justify getting any iPad that isn't the cheapest one now since pricewise and function wise they're just gonna be inferior to just the cheapest Macbook Air.

I used to love the iPad too. it was my favorite Apple product. But now I just look at it with disappointment. All the while, in the span of two years the Apple Silicon transition turned me from a Mac hater to a Mac lover. My MBP pretty much does everything now with how good it is.

I just did this. I have a 16" M1 Pro and sold my 2018 12.9 iPP for a M2 Air 8/24/512 for my more portable productivity. the iPP with magic keyboard is heavier than the MBA which defeats the entire purpose of it for me.

yes I am feeling that too with the ipad, i am not thinking they are too needed.. i hate the keyboard on them too.. probably just me....

You mean the Magic Keyboard? I like the build quality of it but $300 for it felt insane.

Another advantage to going all-in on a speced-out 14" is that I never need to worry about syncing, transferring window state, etc. Everything is always right where I left it when I'm at my desk or on the go.
