I'm going to be getting a new Ivy Bridge MBP when (if!!!) they come out and, assuming they only come with 4GB RAM as standard as per the current models, plan on getting a 16GB upgrade.

From Crucial UK this costs £188 (again, assuming the new ones use the same RAM as the current ones), but OWC do it for $208 plus $3 shipping and $1 shipping insurance giving a total of $212 or £132 - a massive £56 (30%) saving over Crucial's price.

Has anyone in the UK bought from OWC? Would you recommend them? At just $3 the shipping will obviously be surface mail so how long is it likely to take to arrive? Mind you, at $25 for FedEx it would still be a £40+ saving over Crucial.

I bought from OWC no problems.

I bought an OWC 3G 120Gb SSD and had it imported to the UK, no problems at all. Note that Customs & Excise will eat your saving with 20% VAT added on at the point of entry.

Buying RAM in the UK is as simple as looking on Amazon and buying an equivalent brand like Corsair, much cheaper. It all should have a lifetime warranty anyway.

Check which matches and buy the right one. It isn't rocket science but it does dodge import duty as the VAT is already calculated in the price.

Ah, I'd forgotten about HMRC adding VAT (& import duty??).

Those Amazon prices are good - thanks for the tip :D
