Anyone know cost to replace screen on new iPad?

After two years with the original iPad and not a scratch, my Dad just dropped his brand new, preordered iPad and got two dents and a shattered screen. He and i are on a father/son golf trip and he is just completely bummed out.

He was going to buy the AppleCare + but had so much trouble during preorder (tried about 20 times to get it to go through on the 7th that he didn't buy it with the iPad. Extra bummer.

We have an Apple Store visit scheduled For tomorrow afternoon. Any idea how much this will cost him? It is a 64GB AT&T and it works fine. Just the case and screen are totaled.

Edit: it is just the case and digitizer/glass. The LCD underneath looks great.

I had no problem getting through. He needs to be more patient unless he has money to burn, and if he does, nothing wrong with that.
 
Ouch, that was an expensive mistake. My condolences.

Just be honest at apple they might hook you up, never know.

If not maybe 3-400$ for repair.

OOW service repair for the iPad is $299.. They will just replace it with a brand new one. It will come in a black box but it is new because of the iPad just coming out.

Actually quite lucky, because with the iPad 2 and the previous one it was anywhere from $269-$429 for replacement based on size and Cellular vs WiFi. It appears they changed it to just a set price.

Maybe you will get a friendly Genius. Just be honest. Goodluck!

I'm confused? If you are suggesting he buy AppleCare + now it is a little late. iPad is already broken and they require you to bring in your workingipad or iPhone 4s to an apple store to buy AppleCare + after the initial sale now.

Credit card warranty?

What credit card did he use to purchase the iPad? If he used one like American Express, they provide accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days and extend the warranty by a year.
 
Call in, buy the applecare +, wait a couple days, and then say you dropped it.

Really, how will they know when you dropped it? They wont :cool:

That's called Insurance Fraud. It's evident that your morals and ethics are in the toilet.

This. If it was bought with any major credit card, check -- a lot of cards offer this kind of protection. Visa was going to pay for the repair on my brand new shattered iPhone 4 last year (though the Apple Genius ended up replacing it for free). If you paid credit, call the credit card company and ask if anything like this applies -- I expect it will go more smoothly if you call before you go.

(And for everybody: this is an excellent reason to pay credit when making any major electronics purchases!)
 
Nearest Apple store is 100 miles from me. So they added it over the phone. Worst case scenario tell them you're out of town on business.

Ding ding ding. Here is our answer. We talked to Amex and they are covering the replacement. Heading to the apple store later today. I hope the have a replacement in stock.
 
These people who are replying are just spoiled kids with iPads

Go get the apple store and get the apple care. Go back home. Regrsiter the apple care with the serial number on the iPad . Then next day or two take the iPad bak to the store and they will charge you the 50 dollar replacement cost

How's that sound
 
Just go buy a sqauretrade warranty. You have 90 days after your purchase to buy the warranty. Then wait a week and tell them you dropped it, they'll replace it for free...or give you back all of your money for your iPad. :cool:

Glad this worked for you. I use my Amex for all of my electronics purchases. I have made a claim once for an iPhone out of warranty replacement and they were very fast at crediting me the amount for the Apple charge.
