I use MacPaw's Clean My Mac X, and am very satisfied with it. Last year they introduced an antivirus scan feature in it called Moonlock, which turns out to be a separate cybersecurity division they've created.

Doing any net searching on Moonlock is frustrating, however, because most of the references are circular, referencing back to the Moonlock website, which is run by MacPaw, so... does anyone have any information on how good Moonlock is, or isn't?

It's a newcomer in the antivirus market so I wouldn't trust it too much to be honest. If you want some antivirus for mac with a good reputation I recommend BitDefender.

I still turn to either BitDefender or Malwarebytes for reliable virus scanning, absolutely.
If MacPaw is going to persist with it, they need to get Moonlock more independent reviewing and testing, as nobody likes to entrust an unproven app with their security.

I'd recommend Malwarebytes or Bitdefender. Though, of course, macOS has its own, continually updated, list of known malware that is prevented from running.

I'm usually suspicious of "cleaning" apps, which are largely unnecessary.

Sometimes MacPaw software looks suspicious. it slows Mac, so yes my recommendation is also to use trustworthy apps like Bitdefender, avast etc..
