I’m in the same boat. I was able to reserve one 256 and one 64... I want them both in 256 now.

My best guess would be to arrive to the store at least 1.5-2 hours before opening (that’s usually around when they start giving tickets to the walk in group. You can probably chat with an associate to do a swap before all of the tickets are given out to the walk in group. This is pure speculation though, and what I’m going to attempt.

If there was confirmation somebody has done this successfully.. that would be great to know!

So good to see a fellow member from back in 2010. Your words comfort me, I have a Space Gray 256GB on order, but second thoughts of switching to a Silver have come upon me yet again.
Silver is the color everyone will want when you see them ,believe me

Say you pre-ordered a specific device, and you end up wanting to change color, capacity. If your picking up your order at 8AM - 8:30AM, anybody have the experience where they could ask for a different device configuration instead of picking up the one you ordered? Or does the Apple store not let you do that?

You definitely can not unless there is extra stock.

Reading answers from other posters for your question look like ppl will stuck with whatever device they have pre-ordered. Most likely apple wont have stock for next 14 -30 days from Nov 3. Only option would be to return it within 14 days and buy again.

I get that, question is how early without being too early?

Bottom line, supply is severely constrained. First shipments will largely be pre ordered pick ups. You can't have someone else's bespoke phone, so you will have to hope they also have walk in stock.

Now you're competing with everyone else. So the earlier the better.

Plus, while you are in the early line, you may find someone in the exact opposite position as you, and you should approach the counter together.
