Something like the following, but compatible with Magsafe 2 (in my case) would be handy/cool:

Anyone come across anything like this?

Or if there are well-known workarounds/kludges that get you to the same place, that would be interesting too.

You know. There are type c to MagSafe 2 adapters/cables. I used to use em to charge my old MBA 2014 with my 45w powerbank. With that you can use the type c meter

I charge my devices off of one of these in my office / work short area.. including my MacBook M1 Max Pro. I Never tried plugging the MagSafe connector into it but it might work.

It does work when I use USB-C though.

Why don't you plug the MakerHawk into the MBP charger, then the Magsafe cable into the MakerHawk? Both are USB-C. In other words, the Makerhawk goes between the charger and the magsafe cable. (The Magsafe cable is not hard-wired to the charger, but has a USB-C connection.) Am I missing something?

Edit: sorry, never mind, I was thinking of Magsafe 3, not Magsafe 2

This was my first thought. The device is shown on the amazon listing measuring iPhone charging in a similar configuration (between the charger and a USBC-lightning cable) so it should work.

[edit: looks like my first thought - and yours - may have been off as they said Magsafe 2, not magsafe 3...]

That's why this is what I think the best way to get what OP wanted. If OP wants to use the original MagSafe then I guess the only way is to use AC power meter

FWIW I took the MagSafe cable and plugged it into to that charger and hooked up my MacBook Pro Max. Seems to work. It has been as high as 3.4 amps so far.
