Anyone know where the 3G icons live in iOS 4.x?

I saw a post on here that stated Apple was "...hiding most of the .png images used on the iPhone in a single compressed file called shared.artwork."
Anyone have any info on that? Can that file be uncompressed, the images changed, then re-compressed?
