And basically just use their apple watch at previously used Wifi locations (work etc etc)?

I've broken my iPhone screen beyond repair and use, and I've found this as almost a life saver. Texted, made calls, checked emails. Now all we need is FaceTime!

Last Friday I left my phone at home (deliberately) and went to my business and used the known wifi my watch knows but the only thing working was wifi calling, siri, only imessages but no emails and regular text

I smashed my iPhone screen and it had to spend a over night at my local Apple Store for a new screen.
Was very surprised to find I had some watch functionality once I got home. (Texts, emails etc) was trying to work out how it was doing it, was thinking it had something to do with hand off and my iPad.
But now know it was due to used wifi
