I have the LTE Series 7 watch. I know it can be used in a thousand different ways, but probably the most important for me is to see stuff at a glance. Just by looking at my arm I can see upcoming events, todays tasks, weather, etc.

But with iOS 16 Lock Screen customization, and even more with iPhone 14 Pro always-on-display, do any of you guys feel less excited about the watch?
I have the iOS 16 beta on my iPhone 13 Mini, and last few days I didn't even bother use the watch at all. It just gathered dust somewhere in the apartment.

Am I alone with this thought?

I find the watch convenient when I'm in a meeting (even Zoom) or when socializing with other people. Instead of constantly checking my phone, which I dislike for others to do, I can quickly glance at my watch when I feel a vibration.

I have abandoned my aWatch a while ago for a Scanwatch Horizon. With the new Lock Screen and the new Fitness app I have no reason going back

Had to look up Scanwatch Horizon since I didn’t know what that was. Initially I was intrigued by the style and looks but quickly let down by the features, or lack thereof. It reminded me of my previous Garmin Forerunner 230, which also had a 30-day battery life and very accurate GPS for tracking runs.

I’ll keep my options open though. I went through several of the Samsung Gear smartwatches, Garmin, and then Apple Watch. Longer battery life would be great but overall I haven’t come across a better smartwatch yet than my AW7 w/LTE. I use it for Apple Pay, to control smart locks, open/close my garage, control our Tesla, respond to quick emails or messages, and handle phone calls. I love the ability to leave the house, not have to carry my keys/phone/wallet, yet still be reachable when needed.

No, honestly I see the always on screen kind of useless in an iPhone (especially since you'll have to look at it directly to display any meaningful information). The Watch is much less intrusive when glancing to check on notifications while doing something else, even during meetings.

For me the Watch is pretty much a notification viewer, iPod Nano/miniPhone when I'm out with the dog without my phone and Light Workout/Fitness tracker, that's why I really have had no need to update my S5 Cellular watch, it does those things very well.

I’m actually more excited about my Apple Watch than before due to the improvements with fitness and the stopwatch.

My iPhone is either in my pocket or some other room because I left it on my dresser or something. I use my iPhone less than ever.

I am actually less interested in these new fitness features. We’re not all extreme athletes or long distance runners. Apple seems to be going too deep down that rabbit hole. Just because fitness tracking is a good thing doesn’t mean that they have to devote all development to just that to the virtual exclusion of everything else. Improving the display’s visibility in sunlight would be a worthy goal, or further improving the battery. Not as sexy as multi sport triathlon or tai chi, but something that normal users would value.

I have never used my phone for Apple Pay. I‘d have to dig it out of a pocket when a quick double click on my watch takes care of it. In the winter I have my phone in a jacket pocket or a pocket covered by a jacket, getting a call or text message just requires looking down at my wrist, no pocket digging. When I go out for my daily exercise walk I don’t take my phone. I listen to a music playlist from the watch on my AirPods and can take a call or text if necessary with it.

Always on display, if it is actually going to be available on the 14, makes no sense to me. You still have to go pocket or purse digging and just about everyone I see sitting at a table or desk has their phone face down, and almost everyone wears a watch of some kind so you don’t need an always on phone screen to tell time. Texts and alerts are going to light up the screen anyway. So this seems like a feature in search of a need that almost no one has.
